German Borg, a name that is now only a tradition (now that they're an international squad), were founded by Taudin and HF_Phoenix in the first quarter of 2000. They had the goal to give German players a chance to play together in the Allegiance Community, dominated by Americans. The German Borg were an AZ squad until the problems started (see History). Most of the players didn't want to pay for the AZ anymore due to all of the problems, and instead played on FZ. Many people left the squad and Dex_Solo became the new Squad Leader.

In April 2001, the Germany Borg merged with the German FZ squad Piranhas. They also started to sell Allegiance and promote Allegiance, selling around 50 versions of Allegiance to German players.

In terms of competition, GB is one of the longest lasting squads and has always been a force to be reckoned with, participating in AW3, and ranking second in the first Allegiance Tournament (won by Z fighters).

In February 2003, due to the player shortage, they became an international squad. The language for internal squad communication was switched from german to english and non german-speaking players were recruited.

Throughout its history, the German Borg organized four squad meetings and one Allegiance meeting:

  • December 2001, Munich
  • January 2002, Berlin
  • September 2002, Nuremberg
  • September 2003, Kassel
  • September 2006, Stuttgart (AllegCon Germany)

The 'Borg continue to be a strong squad within the community to this day, and you will find their members in the @Help team, as @AFS mentors, and also in the main development team. They are a squad with a lot of long term members and a lot of history.

A thing that makes the 'Borg pretty unique amongst allegiance squads is that they have 3 Squad Leaders of equal standing who work together to support and organise the squad. These leaders are elected each year, which helps to keep the squad fresh, and also makes the 'Borg a true democratic squad, where all Borg Drones have equal say.
