Zone Game 16 took place on 19 April 2008. http://www.freeallegiance.org/FAW/index.php?title=Zone_Game_19&action=edit&redlink=1 Factions: Ga'Taraan Federation vs Rixian Unity

In this battle, the famed battle Order, the Bloody Lance, was completely and permanently wiped out by the Ga'Taraan Federation forces.

The big news this week is action on the part of the Ga'Taraan Federation. The most we've seen of the newcomers for weeks has been in Caius' fleet's auction lots. But here is the latest.

A G'T fleet has come out of a previously unexplored aleph chain and is now in the Belt. The exit area is a nodal point with aleph chains leading out of it towards Mars, Rixian space, and places unknown.

As you might expect, there happens to be an independent human outpost among all the rocks near that hub. Not a very large one, but still one with women and children. The Federation has sent out a task force to hail the outpost. Like every other faction out there, they seem to be recruiting.

The G'T recruitment message is an interesting one. They claim to possess nanotechnology so far ahead of ours that they actually have the little buggers integrated directly into living organisms. The Ga'Taraan Federation says that they have had this technology for around a decade and that it has opened their minds and senses to beyond anything imaginable with our closed minds. They have asked the colonists to consider the prospect of being able to control machines like they do their own bodies, no longer slaves to biology.

Sounds both interesting and creepy, but I am sure there is much more to this than what they are telling the prospectors. Surely, the Bios will have something to say about all of this.

Unfortunately for the Ga'Taarans, this action appears to have riled up the Rixians. The Rixians have never been wiling to let someone steal away possible converts so they have dispatched the Order of the Bloody Lance (Seriously, how large is that thing?)--and have given the same outpost a simple choice: Ascension or death.

With both fleets hawking over the same outpost, things have come to a head. After exchanging a few confused words with one another, the Rixians rejected the Federation's proposal to reach a higher state of being and instead offered their own proposal to join them in Ascension. The Federation responded as any true scientist would and dismissed the Rixian's theories about Ascending as mystical nonsense.

Now both of the fleets are maneuvering into position to strike each other.

How typical! And here I was thinking they could solve their differences with meaningful dialog!

In the meeting between the newcomer Ga'Taraan Federation and the Rixian Empire -- with the fate of an independent prospecting outpost hanging in the balance -- the Federation came out on top after a grueling battle. Initially overpowered by Rixian rip scouts, the Federation chose to employ stealth technology and went on miner offense.

As the Ga'Taraan fought the Rixians back, the Rixians went on a base offensive and destroyed the Ga'Taraan's ability to manufacture stealth fighters. The Federation came back with heavy interceptors and rebuilt their stealth capacity, deploying stealth bombers to finally destroy the Rixians.

DataNet communications scanners picked up the following public transmission from Autumn Sel:

This battle, or massacre, has cost the Unity dearly. Never before in one engagement have we lost so many noble warriors and steeds. In fact, the Bloody Lance as a Crusading Order has been utterly destroyed, never again to introduce Ascension to the heathens. I did not think the technological monstrosities that are the Ga'Taraan could overcome our exquisitely trained Warriors, but I should have known that they needed this blasphemous "nanotechnology" to make up for the inferior, vile human body.

While my Order was annihilated, I escaped with my life and you can rest assured that we will not allow this transgression to go unpunished. No matter what it takes, we will destroy the Ga'Taraan Federation and cleanse their blight on the galaxy.

Ascension guides us brothers!

He does not seem very happy about losing the Bloody Lance. However, this loss is welcome news for the humans in the sector who have come to know the Bloody Lance far too well. The Ga'Taraan have not yet destroyed all the probes in the immediate vicinity of the battle, and their numbers are estimated to be under 500. The aims of the Federation fleet are unclear, but it seems that their objective is Mars. Without question, Gigacorp, the Iron Coaltion and the various Belter groups will have something to say about that, should it ever occur.

The outpost that was scheduled to death by Rixian cannons can rest easier now knowing that they will live, although under their new half-robot overlords. I was in touch with some of the prospectors and they say that some of them are ready to join the Federation, if only to get off that darned rock. Some of the settlers have a genuine interested in the the Ga'Taraan bio-nanotechnology, but those numbers remain in the double digits only. However, the general consensus from the prospectors is that these newcomers have come to help and not to destroy or exploit, as is usually the case with Gigacorp and the Iron Coalition.

The Datanet has yet to make direct contact with the Ga'Taraan fleet. Datanet representatives are working on getting an exclusive interview with a Ga'Taraan official, so look for that one coming in the next few weeks.

As always, we'll keep you posted.
