The Community Core | |
| Developer: | Various, see below |
|---|---|
| First Released: | May 29, 2008 |
| Latest Release: | CC_09b |
The Community Core is a core that, unlike others, is directly influenced by the wishes of the community and edited by a small group of people as opposed to a single developer. They offer a wide range of both core and game expertise as well as thoughts on gameplay balance. The Community Core team works together with the community as a whole to gather feedback, address issues and create new releases on a semi-regular basis. Releases have no set schedule, but tend to come out every one to three months.
You can view and participate in the various on-going discussions here.

History
The Community Core was founded by Apochboi on January 26th 2008. The project started as a general inquiry to Tigereye about the current state of Allegiance core development. In their messages it became apparent to Apochboi that there was a real need for a core that is influenced by the community, regularly updated and that listens to the real feedback. It was from then that Apochboi began forming a team to manage and run the core on the community's behalf. At first Apochboi approached the squad management of a few squads to see what they thought about building a new Community based core from an existing core, and the feedback he received was extremely positive. He then approached a few of the current core developers and asked if they would be interested. A couple of them declined. He then spoke to his own squad leadership about the project and found that aarmstrong was interested in developing a core with him. Aarmstrong would bring a unique perspective on core development to the Community core and was quickly accepted into the newly forming team. After Aarmstrong the rest of the roster fell into place.
Once Apochboi had his team together all that was needed next was an official Zone Leader to manage the project, for which Aarmstrong stepped up. The Community Core team and its forums were finalized and put in place a few months later and have been steadily updating the core ever since. spideycw replaced Aarmstrong as Zone Leader of CC in late April 2009. Apochboi also stepped down from the team around this time.
The first official Community Core release was CC_01b and was based off of Dark Nebulae.
