The do's and don'ts of survival in our community

Our community is comprised of a wide spectrum of individuals, from young teenagers to players in their 50's. You will find us a mature community compared to other gaming communities - the average player age is 27! We work hard to keep the peace here, but just like the real world we have good and bad. You will find out very fast who is who. Take everything here with a grain of salt and stay cool. One of the best posts ever made in our community was by Pook, our retired Admin.

Pook

Pook's Rules of Conduct for Dummies

Act like an adult

Even if you aren't one. This is a mature community based around a game. G-A-M-E - it's not a lifestyle, it's not your fan club, it's not your escape from reality where you're the playground bully. Being good at a video game doesn't mean anything except that you have too much time on your hands and can't find a productive way to spend it.

Be Civil

Everyone wants to play, nobody wants to be hassled. When in doubt, see the rule above.

Everyone gets to play

You don't get to decide who gets to play and who doesn't. I don't care if they have a !@#$&% (-3) tag, let them play... so long as they follow the rules.

Don't be stupid

When you're doing something you know you shouldn't do, you're being stupid. I don't care if you're trying to make a point, push a political agenda, or just like annoying other people. Don't do that. When in doubt, see the above rules.

There you have it. If you follow these four simple rules you won't violate the official RoC and everyone will be happy. If you don't follow these simple rules, then you don't get to play.

Some important items to remember

Our job in this course is to get you going on the right foot in-game so you don't look like an idiot or earn a bad reputation right away (btw it takes years to shake a bad rep!).

  • Do NOT spam the channels with useless voice chats, neither in the lobby nor in-game. It is both annoying and a bootable offense. Doing so in-game can cause you to miss important tactical info because the chat lines are just flowing by.
  • Please take the time to reread our Rules of Conduct (RoC) and Terms of Service (ToS). You are our a guest here and the Administration has the right to remove you at any time for violations. It is expected that you did do the prereading requirements and understand the basic community and it's workings.
  • Please understand that the Vet servers are played completely differently than the newbie server that have been set aside for you. The fun high-money and all-tech games on the newbie server really don't exist on the vet server. The Vet server is where some really SERIOUS players are located.
  • Learn to look at F5 screen in game to see what tech is being built. Don't ask for something until you know the tech tree and have looked for it yourself.
  • READ! And keep rereading! Do ask questions. Get TeamSpeak and login!
  • If you are in the Cadet I program, your actions ingame while you are a Cadet will reflect upon your fellow cadets and instructors. Please act accordingly.
  • While you have a number attached to your nick, please don't tell everyone how great you are. A large number of players here have been playing this game for over 8 years. Your couple of weeks of experience does not qualify you as an expert. I could go on and on over this one. Don't make stupid and outrageous claims. Your reputation you earn early on will stick with you for a long time. If you are 12, please don't act like you are!
  • Some of us have been playing together for years. We have close friendships. What I say in-game to a friend would really upset a stranger. Yes, there is trash talk. But it is usually between friends or people who respect each others skills. Don't get drawn into it.
  • We could tell you the names of dozens of players who have driven themselves out of Allegiance by their actions and remarks. Don't be one of them. Don't try to draw attention to yourself in the lobby. People do pay attention to your actions. You would be surprised on the number of people who are not admitted to squads because of how immature they act in-game or on the forums.
  • And the most important piece of advice that we can offer. Take everything in game with a grain of salt. We have DRAMA here. We have really nice people and some not so nice people. With time you will learn who is who.
  • Take your first boot and learn from it. Well, in general, your first boot is usually valid. It happens to every player sooner or later. Just might be the wrong action you took on a commander's bad day.
  • DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING PERSONAL IN-GAME!
  • Do that and you will survive

The Common mistakes article has a great list of things to avoid dingo. Some of it might not make sense yet, but please do read it!
