If you are looking for information on using different input devices to play Allegiance, see Mouse vs. joystick.

The Game Controller (or GC) is the player who selects all of the game settings and chooses when to start the game. They can also lobby boot people.

The Game Controller is also the commander for one of the teams.

Getting GC

Since the GC is also a commander, the GC position is passed along between players of the same team when commanders change. The only way for Game Control to be passed to a commander of another team is if every member of the 1st team leaves.

Note If you do want to give GC to the other team the easiest way is to "flush" both teams and then drop to NOAT.

If the commander drops, then both the commanding position and GC will fall upon his second in command (the player who is the first one below the commander in the team list).

If you join an empty server, GC will be granted to the first player to join any team.

GC duties

The player who has Game Control is expected:

  • To not go AFK for long periods. Going AFK with GC means that no one on the entire server can play, because you are the only one who can press 'Start Game'. If this does happen you will likely be given a short ban from an @Alleg to force you out of the position temporarily.
  • To lobby boot disrupting players if no @Allegs are sitting on the server.

Rights the GC doesn't have

Allegiance is not Dungeons and Dragons and the game controller is not the game master. As such, GCers are NOT allowed to give orders to enemy ships like "LEAVE MY SECTOR FFS". In the past, a player who gave GC this meaning has been perma-banned from the community for his exteremely disruptive behaviour.
