Important differences:

  • A Boot is when a Commander kicks you off his team.
  • A Lobby boot is when a Game Controller kicks you off the server.
  • A ban is when the admins have blocked your account from joining the online servers. This will normally be because you broke one of either the Terms of Service or the Rules of Conduct.

Note: The terms "Lobby boot" and "Lobby ban" can be used interchangebly.

When Game Controllers can lobby boot

A lobby ban by a GC may only be applied when the following two conditions are met:

  1. There are no @Alleg present
  2. The offender is clearly violating the RoC or ToS. This must be a very apparent violation of the MAJOR rules.

A log review should support the decision made by the GC.

Effects of a lobby boot

A lobby ban can only be issued to players on NOAT.

You are ejected to the server lobby and you cannot rejoin the server until the game ends, or you change your callsign.

You may still join any other game which is being played, or create your own.

Dealing with a lobby boot

Lobby bans are not common - mainly because they're only used when an Admin is not available to deal with the person appropriately. If the Game Controller lobby boots you it has to be for a very good reason. Normally this will be because "You were spamming" or "Highly offensive language" and no Admins were logged into the server. Most Game Controllers warn you before they lobby boot you.

Do not rejoin the game under a different callsign and start abusing the GC. They'll probably just lobby-boot you again. Do not make a big deal of it on the forums. Neither of these actions will help your case nor your reputation. If you truly do feel that the lobby boot was malicious and your ex-GC should be issued a ban you should PM BlackViper, the Enforcement Zone Lead.
