- Abbreviation: lt int, int, hvy int
The interceptor is the ultimate defensive ship, although it can be used in close ranged assaults. It has no shields, no missiles and no ripcord ability but its high maneuverability, strong hull and powerful miniguns more than make up for it. It has a low top speed and relies on its booster heavily - an int with no fuel is very little threat.
Since ints have no ripcord ability the commander must build outposts or techbases at the edges of their territory to give his pilots somewhere to launch from. As such, the interceptor is strongly associated with "constructor pushes": where the team escorts an outpost constructor into an enemy sector, defends it while it builds, then uses it as a launch platform to camp the enemy base before launching the more vulnerable bomber or troop transport.
Ints were developed to stay near stations with their inherently large scan ranges, and so the engineers never thought to equip ints with a decent scanning suite of their own. As such int pilots rely on their teammates to supply info when in enemy sectors - many an int has been podded by a lower quality pilot simply because they couldn't find them to fight back.
