The in-game help is a work in progress.  Prior to March 2006, the help display was terribly outdated, until I redesigned it and filled it with current information.  Since then, I have maintained it with minor changes and updates, but it still is limited in its usefulness.  Right now, the majority of the information has been copied over from the [http://www.allegacademy.org/ Academy] due to the amount of time required to write new material.  In most cases, it is easier to read this information in a browser.  Some sections such as the faction info, can be very useful for quick reference in-game.

Background

The in-game help is a work in progress. Prior to March 2006, the help display was terribly outdated, until I redesigned it and filled it with current information. Since then, I have maintained it with minor changes and updates, but it still is limited in its usefulness. Right now, the majority of the information has been copied over from the Academy due to the amount of time required to write new material. In most cases, it is easier to read this information in a browser. Some sections such as the faction info, can be very useful for quick reference in-game.

Goals

The goal of the in-game help redesign has always been to provide quick in-game reference. This requires all new information designed specifically for the in-game help display. Plans are in place for an overhaul of F1 to include new material and an overall restructuring of the menu to make the most important information easily accessible.

Rewrite Status

I started a group with the primary purpose of writing new material for F1 early summer 07. The goal was to be be mostly done by the end of the summer but work on a new training mission and getting FAZ R4 ready for release has taken precedence. Work will likely speed back up after R4 goes gold.

Use

The primary use of the in-game help is Quick Reference on different topics and tactics that new players need to know/perform in game. When the F1 rewrite is complete new players should be able to quickly find an article, such as nanning, read the basics about it in 2 minutes or less and be able to contribute to the team immediately. This will make inexperienced players more useful and allow them to learn more easily during real games. Additional planned features may or may not make it into the rewrite because of the implementation of this Allegiance Wiki where the content may be more appropriately placed.
