The Community was self-guided by an elected Senate that represented all members of this community. The Senate was created and overseen by Thalgor who had final authority over it. The Senate was originally created to oversee gameplay and balance changes made by the Core Developers & coding changes made by the Code developers, to ensure that these changes were desired by the community. Since it was impossible to poll the entire playerbase it was decided that if each squad had a senator that represented their wishes, then the senate would be a fair represention of the community as a whole.

The Senate was the advisory body of Allegiance. Led by Thalgor and Pook, who were responsible for security and moderation, the Senate used to rule and advise over a variety of questions, creating the Terms of Service and Rules of Conduct as guidelines and they helped enforce those guidelines in cooperation with the @Allegs.

A Senator was a member of a squad who had been elected by the squad's members to represent it in the Senate. To be eligible for a Senate seat, a squad must have been recognized and have played a minimum number of squad games. In 2006 there was a large influx of new players (thanks to the Development team making Allegiance far more accessible) and it was decided that unsquaded players, Mercs, needed a Senator to represent them. The first and only elected Senator at Large, SAL, was Lindy_Hop. The SAL boards are still available here, although this will probably be changed very soon.

On April 22nd of 2007 the Senate was disbanded by Thalgor; the reasons behind that are explained in his open letter to the community. The Senators served us well and deserve our thanks for their hard work and contributions that helped shape our community. We would not be where we are today without them.
