trying to find an answer to the van and stang.... came up with i think my most beautiful model yet called the "Purifier". but wouldent you know as soon as i went to save the completed model and start the UV maping....my comp shut off as i didnt notice the power was out and my stupid APC didnt even warn me it was running the comp...now after all that beautiful work i have to start from scratch :(....

anyhow...what do we need to make the Purifier compariable to the stang/Van?

pilots weps? ac auto cans? single skyrip? PE Particle Beam?
1 gunner? or no gunner? (i think no but meh..)
med shield or small
lt boost or reg boost?
Missiles or Drop Charge?

discuss plz


** PE Particle Beam = look sorta like the RPS core rix ab pods beams....uses Ammo. accessable from Advanced sup and Starbase
** drop charge = one single mine of large size that when droped has a 5 sec delay and a 700m detonation range (friend or foe) think depth charge.

probably AC, skyrip would be cheese, you could galv tech bases with it

humm im thinkin dual dual AC autocans and upgrades to Particle beams

heres a rough shot....i had to "dumb down" alot of detail to keep the polys low...got it down to 500 polys. then theres the 3k poly one ....

anyhow...heres the 500 poly model unskined (skin it later)

i'm trying to decide on the central bit though, i'm not sure what i'm not sure about, but i think it would look better if it were different some how.

yeah..im not to happy about the centerline eather...wing/engine pods look good but not sure about the center.

Id suggest, not giving them the ability to damage bases. If you really want them to be like stangs/vans. I love the model though, can't wait to see it skinned.

no they will NOT have the ability to injure bases in any way....pure gunship/fighter use

awesome modeling thus far. i think what's bothering you both about the purifier is that it lacks the spheroid cockpit that has thus far been so distinctive to your models. as well, i might note that it appears to have picked up abit of a phoenix aesthetic (not that that's necessarily a bad thing).

also, if you are interested in a few suggestions:

-i foresee some problems with the way you set the doors on the exp; mainly people crashing into each other as they are entering and leaving, especially if they come in at an angle or pull up/down/boost on their way out.

-it might be interesting to flesh out the religious overtones of the faction abit. ex:
--tweak the backstory to suggest that the archangels, under pressure of constant attack by superior forces, turned to religion under their charismatic leader (afterall, Ivanova is god) and eventually became a sort of fanatical cult in addition to a military empire.
--replace the pinup girl decals (though i love them dearly) with (possibly violent) religious imagery. consider pictures of angels smiting things.
--include things like hymns, prayers (to cleanse the universe of the unclean heathens and unholy aliens) and other religious propaganda with the ambient sounds. i'm sure you could find some stuff like that in the public domain and people around here to lend their voices.
--you might consider creating some sort of kamikaze/suicide bomber.

-a while back, while thinking about how i might design a faction (also with an unconventional approach to scouting) i came up with this idea that i think is rather novel:
--Listening Post; essentially a small (like around the size of a teleport receiver) station that just sort of sits around and doesn't do all that much (maybe theres a SR for defense, but that's about it) but has an absolutely huge scan radius. huge as in if you build one on a generic asteroid near the middle of a sector you can keep an eye on most of the grid.
---in nearby or secured sectors it makes scouting fairly easy, especially in the early game, but the farther you attempt to go from home with these things the tougher it gets to keep the constructor alive until it can build, and losing them can be costly.
---conversely, it's somewhat harder to remove than ews probes and doesn't require you to rely on your pilots to keep the map probed up (an action which many players don't seem to be vary interested in, much to my continual irritation).


these are just some ideas, please don't think i'm trying to tell you what to do or anything. you're doing a great job.

humm...all very good ideas!

the religon aspect is a good idea...i like it and will use some of it to revamp the back story, but i dont like the idea of having Ivanova as a god...i also dont want to post religious images and what nots (belive me i thought on it) but i dont want to piss off the few that take that kinda thing seriously (belive me ..pepole do). so ill look into ways to incorporate more into that...your ideas on this are MORE than welcome...as for angel smiting images...well, lets face it...there not as pretty. kamikazi type ships may require a code change so thats not posable, ( and hints of jihad kinds stuff /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> )

as for the listinging post...i supose a cheep base with no docking or launching abilitys..huge scan radius and just as huge sig be posable...but it has to be weak and easy to kill...maby gats can kill em...posable....quick build, say 40 sec. cost about 2000 creds? that can work..helps cancel the scout .


also...heres the skined version....i was gonna use the circular type cockpit here...but somehow i just didnt seam to feal like it....i killed the rounded mis and use one more thin and areo-dynamic. added dual Particle beam guns * cause i like the vans 3 chain guns* and a missile launcher on the read deck...anyhow take a lookski

maby push the cockpit a bit further down the nose? the way it's placed now you'd have EXTREMLEY limited field of vision.
