Jjb273, here's the technical reason for you non-newbie status in ELO:
The ranking system (usually called 'ELO') was put in place some months ago. It's a system that balances out over time. To calculate appropriate ranks, it needs *a lot* of data. To speed up this process, all players were given a starting rank correlative to the time since their account was created. The longer they have been around, the more you can assume they are experienced players -- particularly in game that takes as long to learn as Allegiance.
Of course there a few players who created accounts, but never used them, and then suddenly come back. These are first overrated by the system, but your rank will adjust to your real experience and skill over time.
Now you might ask why we don't just adjust your rank. Well, for one, there is the problem that we can't really confirm whether you're really new. Some vet could say: "I'm a newbie, reset my rank" and it will screw up the ranking system a little. Besides, it's work for the admins, they are busy enough and it's not really necessary. ELO a self-balancing system, and your rank will soon reflect your actual skill.
Just keep playing on the main servers. We have rules in place to protect any players -- newbies and vets -- from harassment. That's part of the @Alleg's job (the major part is to help newbies, answer their questions, etc.). If you're experiencing really abusive behaviour and no @Alleg is around,
send a private message to BlackViper, tell him what happened, when, and on which server. He's the @Alleg Commissioner and will investigate the situation and act on it if necessary.
