P32 Envy.... I just died laughing... and I'm not even sure that was supposed to be funny... or even if it is funny.... I think I need to lay off the caffeine..cashto wrote:QUOTE (cashto @ Sep 4 2014, 08:12 PM) Edit: I suppose there's a third reason, which I'll charitably call "P32 envy". In which case, get over yourselves ...

I haven't had any issues ranking up. I understand the ranking system and as I played more and learned more I win more and rank up. My stats suck as far as kill ratios are concerned but this thread has already addressed there is far more to winning than whoring. In LOL I tend to play support. No glory but I win more than I lose. I think that is the point of the ranking system and why I feel it should remain. If you value a shook kill ratio those stats are available but collecting kills doesn't ensure victory. I find myself agreeing with Cashto. Implement ladders or time based ranks for prizes or acclaim but there is no need to change the current ranking system or reset it. I feel the best arguments have all been made for and against. Players who might return like last reset will likely leave again quickly. The only justification for resetting ranks is if we roll out a new system and implement it. I think we can all agree that while the system is not perfect it is not bad. Look at tenforward's rank. Right about 10 (9.9) is where the system has him with all those games played. And who here thinks this is an over or under representation of where he should be? I vote leave the existing system as is. Build a seperate ladder if you like to run parallel to it for contestsbut do not break what we have without some sort of real fix.

Some facts we should consider.
1. Allegskill / Trueskill is infallible, and every game that any version of it has been deployed in have instantly and forever become completely balanced, serene zones of cuddliness.
2. Allegskill / Trueskill is infallible, and the developers and implemeters of it re-invest the biilions they earned from the wagers on the previous year's Superbowls into wagers on the outcome of the current Superbowl . By 2022 Mr Chaos and Sgt Baker will be directing their empire from a control room in the base of an extinct volcano, which they enter via their private submarine pen. Unless of course the aforementioned, mysteriously "doesn't work like that" ie: accurately predicting the outcome of skill based team events with the addition of random, unpredictable (is this even possible?) elements.
3. Allegskill / Trueskill has resulted in every round of every game it has been unleashed upon being balanced and fair. Unless it hasn't, in which case it will be the fault of something else. Forums around the world are full of tales of how it has made the world a better place. Unless they aren't, in which case it is the fault of something else. Like the games just not being as much damned fun as they should be since most of the proletariat are simply incapable of grasping the mathematics and playing in such a way as to at least make it appear that some element functions as it should. Damned games just don't get the math either I guess.
4. Allegskill / Trueskill is at least better than what we had before. Isn't it?
