My 2 cents:

People don't like ranks based on win/lost ratio, especially if they don't understand the system. AllegSkill/TrueSkill is complex... The more data you have, the more accurate the ranks are. Without data (so called rank reset), they become totally inaccurate.

Prime example WN8 in World of Tanks:
People start creating new accounts, because thier WN8 rating sucks (See AllegSkill and learning the game, or call it punish new players for learning the game, yes they do stupid things and don't know better, this won't lead the team to victory, so you stack (join the winning team)...)People start playing defensively or start doing stupid things, because WN8 team rating (XVM) tell them the game is already lost because of skill (WN8) imbalance.People claim that matchmaking is broken (WG gives a @#(! about WN8, it's 3rd party program to rate players based on in-game stats)People claim that WN8 (XVM) is destorying the game/fun

People want rank based on playing the game, it doen't matter if they are good or not, like CoD(4) multiplayer or old Allegiance Zone ranks. (Play the $#@!ing game and rank up, the better you are, the faster you gain a higher rank, if you suck it takes much longer.)

These ranks don't help balancing a game, but they give the players a warn felling that something is happening with thier rank, even if they suck...

You don't want a AllegSkill reset, you want ranks based on something else (for example XP), while balance still relies on AllegSkill.

With such a aditional rank system a reset makes sense, but not a AllegSkill reset. ;)

I believe with regular rank resets, shown rank would better reflect someones true skill, especially for people who have learned the game in the previous rank cycle. Take Djole for example, he has learned the game in this current cycle, and as a result he is ranked much lower than he should be, because all his learning games are still being counted. All not resetting ranks does is let old vets get uber stats with minimal losses, while keeping newer people stuck at lower ranks. Old vets don't have their learning games counted, why should newer people?

I agree with pkk in the sense that people wish to have ranks that reflect their time + experience in playing allegiance rather than an ELO/Trueskill/Allegskill assigned and displayed rank.

The leaderboards can stay in their current format, but remove the ranking tied with it and make it a stand alone based on experience thing. I do realize that would make people like TenForward have a 30 while I would still have a 10 since I kill pugs whenever I log on, but, just like in other games that have that same set up, you only need 5 minutes to establish just how good of a player someone is.

All this does though is really stroke the ego of the sensitive and incompetent people that have played this game for years but still don't grasp the core concepts of the game. They want something to show for their investment in Allegiance, and god knows they don't have the skill to display. So give them their number. Make them feel better.

In the end, it doesn't change a single thing.

i was able to get some code in for the new balance attempts and it was taken out of R6/R7 - as far as i know - i was the only person who committed code to the actual game to try to improve "Autobalance" - thanks MrC.

oh and btw, i got to peek at some of the db logic - it's no where near a correct implementation of TrueSkill - even then it will still be $#@!ed up

Rank only matters for balance and when you have people. Balance is only possible when you have some sort of buffer zone between the vets and the newbs, which is only possible with people. The solution is more people.

As for staying on NOAT I'd love to do this when/if you implement some sort of ping function within the game that informs NOATs when the game is starting even if they are in a different window. Because I often forget about the game and then join when the game is almost over.
Sing O! Muse, the incompetence of shihab, that brought countless ills upon his teammates. Many a brave bomb run, it sent hurrying to pods; many a con did it leave prey to enemy int whores, for so were the councils of his commanders ignored, that the moment he entered in his ship, he flew circles...

The solution is soft resets, btw. It's the same thing that League of Legends and Starcraft 2 do (LoL does it once a year, SC2 does it like, once a month). It's not "everyone's a 0 now" it's "everyone's mu is significantly larger because a handful of games have been shaved off their history."

But I don't think rank has anything to do with how many people play to be completely honest. I don't know anyone who really cares about their rank, but it IS good for newbies to see themselves progress from 0 to 6 to get that little bit of "my wins count for something!" satisfaction.

Folks get tired of playing any game/sport/activity after a while and move on. New players are the lifeblood of game/sport.

Is there still an advertising campaign going for gaming websites?
