Fraps used to crash for me when games ended. Haven't tried in a year though.
And I agree that this video should be mandatory for all vets to watch. Give the noobs commands, they love to press that insert button!
Allegiance through the eyes of a newbie
YouTube doesn't convert 800x600 to 720p. The highest resolution YouTube will convert 800x600 to is 480p, which looks like crap. The next step up in Alleg, 1024x768 does convert to 720p on YouTube, and it's pretty much the bare minimum these days.TurkeyXIII wrote:QUOTE (TurkeyXIII @ Dec 20 2012, 03:03 AM) If you fly with the same resolution as the endgame screen (800x600?) then it won't change screen modes and won't crash. Squirg did it like that too.
There might also be an obscure combination of hardware that can prevent the crash, but I'm not sure.
I have had days where Fraps doesn't crash on the resolution switch, but I'm not sure why. It may have something to do with when recording starts. I'll be investigating this more thoroughly soon.
To our coders:
Would it be possible to rescale/stretch lobby in software instead of switching resolution?
I remember playing a game where one could disable resolution switches and choose whether he wants to preserve static menus 1:1 (black bars filling the rest) or stretch it (with or without preserving aspect ratio)...
I believe it would fix this issue.

It would also help people with quirky HW/driver setups that don't handle resolution switches and stretching smoothly :-)
It can also be annoying in certain multi-monitor setups.
But I agree, not really an issue.

I've made a ticket for it (here), but it's low priority.Jeruwafi wrote:QUOTE (Jeruwafi @ Dec 21 2012, 01:03 AM) To our coders:

I did some testing but I wasn't able to figure out what keeps alleg from crashing on the resolution switch. To resolve the issue I'm just going to fraps everything at 800x600 and rescale to 960x720 before uploading to YouTube. That seems to work.Monkage wrote:QUOTE (Monkage @ Dec 20 2012, 08:49 AM) YouTube doesn't convert 800x600 to 720p.
