Clearly you've never worked directly with TE on a person-to-person level.jbansk wrote:QUOTE (jbansk @ Apr 23 2011, 07:54 AM) Maybe we can replace the completely worthless "admin" with one that doesn't bury its head in the sand.
As someone who has I can honestly say that he BENDS OVER BACKWARDS to do *anything* that's needed from people he considers trustworthy.
He was only minutes away for most e-mails that I sent him when I was DevZL and I bothered the HELL out of the guy, so he was patient as fsck.
I even spent some time on the phone with him during his workdays at his REAL JOB.
That's a great idea. Let's get rid of all of the people who drive off those who want to help by being personally toxic to them and calling them idiots on the forums and IRC.jbansk wrote:QUOTE (jbansk @ Apr 23 2011, 07:54 AM) Maybe we can get development back up and running and salvage this broken game?
It's kind of difficult to convince people who develop C++ for a living to spend their time developing this game in their free time when the environment is full of people who just curse other people of different skill levels or opinions out.
I stepped down as DevZL partially because the toxicity was not only affecting me, I was imitating it due to constant exposure, which is bad for the community as a whole, especially from someone in a leadership position.
Let's knock off the name-calling, the accusations, the ridiculous hate for anyone in power, and the constant trolling and maybe, just maybe, we'll attract people with skill or, better yet in the spirit of Allegiance, train them up.
(edit - clarity)

You know what would be awesome? Allegiance-themed t-shirts. I wouldn't mind wearing one with the GigaCorp logo on it and the slogan "tomorrow's resources today!"
It is my understanding that there are places on the Internet where one can have that sort of stuff made, and sold. I wonder if Microsoft could be persuaded to allow some images/logos to be used in this way?.. After all, it's doubtful they have any plans of their own for the intellectual property at this point, and any proceeds from sales could go to fund the community in some suitably non-profit-y way.
Yesh, I was wondering -- idly -- whether it might be possible to just ask Microsoft for permission, thus avoiding conflict; of course the odds of them agreeing would be very small, but then, the same could have been said about their decision to release the Alleg source code in the first place... And it is a very old intellectual property that would be simple abandon-ware if it were not for this community... Who knows, maybe, if the right person to ask is found, actual permission is possible? Obviously doing anything like this behind Microsoft's back would be an insanely bad idea that I would not even idly speculate about.HSharp wrote:QUOTE (HSharp @ Apr 25 2011, 05:59 PM) Idea has been mentioned before but Microsoft do own the rights and have a bigger legal department then FAO.
... Mostly I just really like the GigaCorp logo and slogan.

(this is not a dig at Girly's idea about funding and ask Microsoft if it's ok... just don't want to enrage him... again
)
or we can brain wash someone who is easily manipulated, highly unstable, and with an exteme excessive compulsive disorder to do our bidding. Who could that be you ask? I can think of no better person.
highly unstable - witholding and applying large amounts of sugar makes him a quivering pile of responsive goo
easily manipulated - his spirit broken in El Bardo's infamous Dungeon of Love (trademark pending)
compulsive disorder - The Hoff... nuff said
Once we unleah the person who we shall give the code name "Pinkie" to do the most vile, degrading, and inhuman things imaginble while being recorded for distribution on youtube (think One Pinkie Two Cups) all while having "Those who play Allegiance rule, while the rest of you drool" tatted on his forehead and foreskin (El Bardo runs a popular place yo) this will allow his Evil Genius code named "The brain"'s many year planto FINALLY bear fruit. Allegiance will go viral and we can all pwn the great noobish hordes to our heart's content.
edit: typing eroors fixed and to put the seal of authentication on it

I've tried getting people to play this. I get nothing but complaints the next day... "Graphics suck" "It's too hard to move" "Aiming is impossible, I could barely hit anything" "Sitting in an escape pod is boring"
For me, the graphics didn't matter, and the complexity made it more interesting, but I have a hard time finding other people with that view.
They all seem to want things served to them on a silver platter, and needing to read a manual is waaay out of the question with them. They don't want to read pages and pages of text, they just want to jump right in and enjoy the game.
I give up
