it would have vastly changed pugs imoNightRychune wrote:QUOTE (NightRychune @ Jun 5 2010, 06:25 AM) reinvented? nah, IC exp vs IC exp would have still been the best way to go with massive amounts of RP spam
feedback wanted on a few possible code changes

Vastly changed pugs, yeah, but to what extent? It would have lessened the impact of solo miner heroes drastically, put more emphasis on scouting and keeping things eyed, and made IC tacspansion or IC exp even better than they already are due to how easy it is to spam large amounts of RPs to keep every tech rock and/or helium rock eyed - particularly IC tacspansion since it'd be possible to build your tac early, keep it uneyed and then all of a sudden "lol all their miners just died to our sfs before they even saw the si rock was gone."
Personally I'm in favor of the change because it'd push teams towards playing better to win instead of bumble$#@!ing around and having their hands held the entire time, but I have to consider those inferior to me who would struggle to do what they needed to do to win a game without being able to have people on their team glance at f3, see where the other team was mining, and have 1-2 people go solo 8 miners during the course of a game because the other team is too dumb to defend them properly.

That is pretty much my concern. It makes RP spam even more of a differentiator between factions.NightRychune wrote:QUOTE (NightRychune @ Jun 6 2010, 04:29 AM) Vastly changed pugs, yeah, but to what extent? Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

the same can be said of any factions tac pretty much. and ther was at some point a thread about nerfing rps, though i dont remember what happened to it...
It would certainly strengthen tac because you can find miners with an sf almost as well as with a scout. Also removing the insta eye bug would make it easier to sneak in sbs to sectors (especially with hvy cloak)
Figs have almost double the scan of ints, which make them easier to find miners with. Exp can still get pps, but it will make it more of a necessity than an option that you can do without as far as miner o.

Well, these things are bugs. I mean, it makes no sense to know where an enemy's tech bases are building or where their miners are mining if you don't have scouts or probes even in the same sector. It's not like these bugs ruin the game or something, but they make no sense and still kind of detract from gameplay.
Obviously right now the game is balanced around these bugs. So if they were fixed, CC would probably have to be re-balanced. Exactly how can only be clear if the bugs are fixed, and some games are played without them to see just how it affects balance. Then changes could be made. But isn't the whole point of CC to make it possible to get such changes and rebalances out fairly quickly?
And is it worth it to keep these bugs in the game just so some re-balancing can be avoided? I'd love to see what gameplay would be like if you couldn't rely on one person sitting in base clicking on the mini-map to tell you where their miners are, and if you couldn't instantly know what tech they've got, no matter what, as long as you got all the tech rocks eyed early on. And if a lucky glance at the command view by someone sitting in base couldn't instantly reveal to the enemy that base you snuck into their back-sector. It's obvious these aren't exactly game features; they're problems, that just happen to be small enough to live with, and to have become something the community is used to playing with, and around. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be great if they'd go away, even if this did briefly make some tech or another overpowered, requiring a nerf in the next CC release.
... Anyway, this is all idle talk until someone comes along who both can fix them, and still wants to...

yay brood you sexy bitch
KGJV you gotta love this - but after you know who finished implementing your Alliances project, he learned alot about how visibility works from a source-code-tech standpoint. So get 'er done.
