Some old, leftover, 'easy to do' code changes that we could do. I'd like your feedback on these:

1. Game status panel ('g' key):
- don't count unspotted bases in the current result (except starting bases). point: it's rather unfair to use this panel to see if the enemy has build a tech base (specially a sy) without having it scouted.

2. Rocks on minimap/command view:
For uncontrolled sectors:
- don't remove a "consumed" (base built on or destroyed) special rock from the minimap (and all rocks in command view) until actually scouted again. same reason as above.
- same wise don't update He3 levels for a team unless this team actually 'scan' these informations.
Once you control a sector (or share control), you'll get full real-time sector information for all rocks whatever the base scan range. if you have only probes and ship flying in that sector, scan ranges will be used.

3. F5 investments for base constructors requiring special rocks (tech bases, spec mines):
- remove the restriction that prevent to invest unless such rocks exists (scouted). Just let it be like any other investments even if they're no available rocks at all. Just display a warning if no required rock is currently known. Point: Comms should know what they are doing /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> and it allows to pre-invest in tech base cons earlier (at your own risk of course).

Except for the last change, all these changes are about removing 'free and unfair informations'. you want to know what happened or is happening in a sector: you need to have a base or probes in it or people scouting it.

edit: removal of build sphere too if not in scan range/controlled sector.
edit: numbered the proposed changes

I love all but the last, that one is a "meh" point for me.
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

i'd be happy with 1 and 2. I think they're necessary changes. As for 3, I'd personally much rather you sorted out the randomising alephs to allow static alephs for custom maps (as well as random ones of course).

These are all really good, really long overdue changes. I always thought it was unfair the amount of information that can be had without even scouting.

There will be some degree of learning curve here, especially for the F5 investing in cons change, but we should not dumb down allegiance to the lowest common denominator.

I think that they are all "no-brainers".

Open a topic for that one (or bump an old one if it already exists) so we can stay focused /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Oh please, please yes.

Good idea about the warning, I guess it would just replace the current "No Uranium asteroid available" message that appears on the button.

1 & 2 seem fair.

3 is a little stupid commander unfriendly, and boy do we have a lot of those.

4, the aleph thing would be neat.

5, a post on boosters would also be great /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />

P.S. I can see a voob comm buy an Exp con at the start only to find out 10 minutes later the only u rock is in the enemy home.
