Yeah I do need to talk to myself from time to time.... and I'm no genius. :)

I'd need to run tests, of course, to determine how much to increase said variable by.

Another thing that can do once your test show you the amount to increase gamma by, is to coordinate that increase with changing the rankings to their natural 50 with AS instead of the 30 that it's being shoe-horned into. For example let's say that in the medium term it's desired to bring the displayed rank from 30 to 40 (so that in the long term it can be increased to the normal 50 ranks in stages as well to minimize any perceived excessive impact from a subjective number change), the amount that gamma would be increased could be divided into 5 steps coordinated with increase the displayed rank in 5 steps 30>32>34>36>38>40, let's say over a period of 5 months. The main reason for using the steps is to minimize players from exagerating the effects of the ranks changes and to ease everyone into the needed update comfortably.

Not much I can do with testing since it's pretty much number crunching, though if you need anything I'm happy to help. :)

You don't understand: The shoe-horn can be fixed with 2seconds of SQL manipulation. It's only because we had a legacy 0-30 system that I was forced to accept the current situation. I've been campaigning/moaning about this for years. If this were to change tomorrow (ASGS) it wouldn't break the game servers. Everyone with a >30 rank would simply show up as (30) until the game server operators updated their ranks.txt file.

Edit: fixed tyop

Edit2: Currently all AS calcs happen in 0-50 space and are jammed in to 0-30 when displayed to the user.

Oh I realize that you can fix the shoe-horning quickly, what I was trying to get across is that it may be desirable to lesson the shoe-horning in stages so the visual impact to players isn't so dramatic.... my rank is 13/30, if you removed shoe-horning completely it would become 21/50, so what I was suggesting was that to lesson the visual impact and unreasonable panic or confusion is that the shoe-horning were fixed in steps- for example...

May 13/30

July 14/32
Sept 15/34
Nov 16/36
Jan 17/38
Mar 18/40

So on the basis of the shoe-horning alone (and games played would obviously still affect ranks as normal), the displayed rank would increase because of the lessoning of shoe-horning but it's still relatively the same compared to everyone else, the visual number is not suddenly see a dramatic change.

I would think that less drama is good. :)

I see no reason for this.

Everyone is happy. Everyones' rank just flew through the proverbial roof.

Would it really unsettle the minions to that degree?

Oh I don't think it would, I was just being extra cautious. You're right, let loose the rank flood! :D

Do remember that it takes a whole year for me to push a code-change.

A whole year? I thought it wasn't even pushed yet.
