I think this is an awesome idea.

Yeah, code change to have them even work.

Also, nan mines could actually work (Small packet of nanites activated on impact). And I'm not going to get too pissy about the use of "mine" since it has too many uses to begin with. Laser's specific, as is nanite. Mine is not.

Since we are already on code topics, how hard would it to be to make a laser gun that doesn't fire bursts but just keeps a steady single beam of energy? It would be more like a 'sword' than a firing weapon. Just a thought...

Mcw, andon made one some time ago IIRC.

Also, we could use the negative damage mines for alliance games.

It's possible, but it has some... funny characteristics.

The beam is perpetuated at the gunmount, and doesn't have any speed. It's accomplished via a long model (Scale set to desired length of beam) with a CVH... Now, since the beam is created at one instant, it will not 'stop' when it hits something. It'll go straight through the sucker, possibly hitting things on the other side, dealing full damage to everything it touches. Also, depending on the RoF you give it, it 'jumps' some and may also disappear while you're actually hitting something.

Interesting things that I did with it when testing:
A) Killed a miner THROUGH an asteroid
B) Killed a miner THROUGH the base
C) Killed 4 drones at the same time (They were sitting in a row)

It would be useful for those times the miner comes out of the aleph with a sliver of health and dies before your nan projectiles reach it.
Miner goes through, *poof* healed =P
Or fly ahead and drop them in front of the bomb train as checkpoints :P

I could see how this could be fun as an sf.

Even though it would draw a line right to you.

Hilarity ensues
“True wisdom is less presuming than folly. The wise man doubteth often, and changeth his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubteth not; he knoweth all things but his own ignorance.” --Akhenaten, Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt and all around smart guy.
