Threads like this, and the general no-no-ness of the matter, cause me to get scared to touch the miners even when they should be stopped from going into a hot sector/ripping into camp, or to hide them from a scoutless int patrol and so on... I know it has caused atleast a couple miners to die, so I suppose I should move them anyway and get booted if it so happens. Or maybe I'm just overreacting like usual.

Epsion, ordering the miners to save them will usually not trouble anyone. The only thing that you must be extremely carefull of is about ripping IC miners. I often told my miners to rip because I saw a rush comming 5k from our sector. Then, someone, 25 sec latter, sees 10 enemies in the sector and tell them to rip elsewhere. The result is that my rip gets cancelled and I'm angry. So, with Ic miners, make sure you checked if the comm gave it an order before touching it.
Also, here's what I do:
When I see a tech con about to build in a sector where it is stupid to build it imo, what I do is to tell the con to move next to where it is, ask the comm to reconsider and tell him I stopped the con from building. If he disagree, he can just rebuild the con and we lose like 10 secs.

I would have to agree, players attempting to rip IC miners after you already have raises the blood pressure.
Guess the benefit comes with a cost.
I usually do a "read the chat" or something like "MINER RIPPING" in caps to save the heart issues.

I never touch the miners, unless its emergency moves(like orderin it to dock, or go back to he3 after the O is podded), or ordered to micro them. When comming I usually set some ppl into managin them when Im too busy looking some other info, and if someone else touches it, gets a warning, do it again, and be ready to be kicked.
