Hi, I'm one of the newer 'noobs' here and I'm trying to find a pilot who took me to an empty server and flew 2-4 hours with me before too many people showed up and it became a lightfight.
I can't remember his name... I tried to thank him before he left. I'm hoping to make sure he knows I appreciated his time and he wasn't just wasting a couple hours for nothing /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" />
We spent some time dogfighting different classes... my first and only times in gunboats or bombers... and learned some tricks and tips about races. He also helped me put thrusters in my control setup, which I hadn't been using the first couple days after installation and don't know how I ever managed a kill without. He'd remember me maybe from him teaching me how to thrust 'dance' around bombers/gunships while nanning, and that exercise keeping the asteriod between me and him. I've been working on the stuff he advised me to since (I've much improved in my nanning thanks to you dude) and also joined the Cadet program.
Anyway, thanks out there!

Make sure to stay until you are a vet so all that effort was worth its while. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

I don't want that time to be a @#(!-storm of hate and schadenfreude.
Yea it was me /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
I was trying to help him get the hang of menuvering with vector lock.
You know, he isnt such a bad pilot considering how new he is here, but he was dodging/boosting too much, and not enough shooting /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
But he seems to know alot of good menuvers such boost coiling so he can close distance enough to do some damage to a turreted bomber, or even keep the turrets distracted while the others take em down unharmed.
Often times myself I get targeted by the turrets in wich case I strafe out of the path of the bullets and let the other defenders take care of it.

Whoohoo! And thanks for the pm to make sure I saw this Exo.
/mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" /> Excellent! Thank you so much... yes I've been working on my weaknesses and the tricks you showed me. I still think I use too much thrust in fighting but I hit far more often and can dodge a bit better. Work in progress /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Boost coiling <- new term for me, but it's pretty self descriptive and food for thought.
A lot of sites for aerial combat have pages devoted to things like "split s's", "scissoring", Lag rolls" and other manouevres. A lot of these aren't relevant in Alleg as they require "up" and relate to using gravity to assist in maintaining energy states.
Can anyone point me in the direction of some good reading material relating to space combat relevant to Alleg?

Thats probably because you can't teach skill through manuals, there is no way to write where to aim since ships can change speeds. The only way to know where to aim is from natural feel. Some people are good at it, some people are bad and some start of bad but become good. Also because there is no gravity and ships can move in any direction, the only thing you do is thrust away from teh direction the enemy is firing at.
Not talking about skill, but asking about principles.
e.g. "don't chase scouts - vector lock off to side and then shoot at em".
I'm not after "vector lock 116 meters above target, aim 37deg fwd of targets movement divided by the hypotenuse of the plangent blah blah blah"
as an example
