Yes Grimm, I did not fail to notice you being high on the wanted list! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

I doubt whether anyone expects there to a full time help line for other languages other than English. But having the ability for a complete newbie to quickly and easily access a little bit of content that helps them on their Freeallegiance voyage cannot but be a good thing.

The wiki is such a handy little tool and we would be foolish not to at least use one it's prettiest features. I have read the discussions on the wiki and there does not seem to be any discussions on language support. This is the LINK that is stickied on the forums. Perhaps it would be the best place to start. There is no loss that I can see in trying it out.

Questions.
I assume that the wiki will default to the English version if the requested language version is not available?
Can a portlet be added to display available language support?
Does the site map support any language features?
Will it increase it's search engine rating?
Will it increase the use of the wiki?

I have nothing to do with the wiki (except maybe as a standard community member who might point out something for clarification/correction, etc.). I'm focused on the Academy (and by extension) the Cadet portions thereof. I'm pretty sure that the same can be said of BV but I really can't speak for him in this regard.

I'm with Baxter. When I started playing online games, I could understand some words in a sentence and understand a general meaning, but I usually missed everything that was unusual. I learned english by playing video games. My 1st online game was diablo 1. I learned many new words and could quickly understand "buy", "kill", "sell", "gold", "sword", "shield", "me", "you", etc

So if anyone told me that he wanted to sell me a sword of X for Y gold, I could understand that, but if I saw people do things and wanted to know how, the answear was usually almost impossible for me to understand.

The amount of english required to play allegiance in a PU game isn't overwhelming, even for someone who isn't good in english. Understanding "bomb Raiko", "nan me" or "go go go!" is usually enough to play allegiance decently and it's really not hard. However, it's possible that someone understand that he should be naniting, but isn't good enough in english to understand how when people tell him. If there is support in his language, it would be much easier for him.

Words that are often written can be learned fast, but a question is rarely asked again after it was answeared, so all questions are new words and are much harder to understand.

All the big commercial games are in English, if you are lucky there are other languages supported e.g. German. Children are usually very motivated to understand the workings of a game if they LIKE the game. They learn from each other on msm chat "how do you ...".

Even if you have a non-English Windows, you still run into English dialog boxes and/or other English software. Again, children will cope with this.

Now the real questions imho are:
1. Is Alleg "sexy" and "stimulating" enough for someone to actually install, learn and play it?
2. Is the playerbase of Alleg stimulating enough to stay on Alleg or change to another game?
2. Alleg must work flawless with MS Vista or we will die sooner or later. Vista is the default configuration on most new computers.

Sorry I missed this the first time, you posted on the day I flew from Vermont to California... whole day trip /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

I am the ZL for the Docs Zone, meaning all decisions regarding the wiki are under my jurisdiction. I'm open to new ideas, just post something over in my forum /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
