this is fine for me because most of the screens i liked are still there (F5, menus in F3, some of the buttons)
That, and many issues only appear when you select CortUI *and* Slipstream GUI. And that with all the possible CortUI extra options. Add some weird uninstallation situations and you got a nice set of cases to test. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
DasSmiter wrote:QUOTE (DasSmiter @ Nov 13 2007, 10:30 PM) so is there some way we can preserve the slipstream install as it is now and just stop supporting it? (leave the latest efforts you've put into it out there, but don't bother with updating it after this point)
Well, no need for extra work for me there I think, you can just use Newtype's original .zip that I'm sure is still around somewhere. It should never crash, worst thing to happen is probably a weird skin.
I never really modified anything but a handful of images to make CortUI modifications appear in Slipstream GUI skin. I gave up early, and they are probably already outdated.

But yeah, one of the problems is that I long lost track of which image is actually which (having the same names) and what does work and what doesn't.

Well the votes are not really suprising /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Even if there would be quite a few people around who are 'slipstream fans' AND 'possess adequate mod knowlegde' they would be far outnumbered by the people who do not possess both traits.
Combine this with the acute pressure of a broken CortUI in RC4 and you will have almost no one at hand who would volunteer /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

But this is not really about majority here I would guess /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> It is more about the correct way of doing things in so far that 'if there is even one who would volunteer to do all the slipstream work' then Cort could give that person the responsibility for slipstream and thus preventing a 'why have you ditched it? I would have done the work gladly'

It is already admirable enough that Cort 'dragged' Slipstream through several Releases /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
(I say admirable as typically a developer is only producing superb code as long as they work on some personal features that are of interest to them /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> setting them to work on something else might work.. but well we would not want to have CortUI release quality or frequency suffer due to that /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

And mayhap something better will come out of it. A unencumbered CortUI and a dedicated Slipstreaminstaller (not maintained by cort) would sure be better than a combiTool.

eh, wha?
Who awoke me from my slumber???

Actually, Cort sent me a very polite message letting me know about this decision.
I fully support it, and nothing has been taken personally.
I have been exceptionally busy with RL the past two years, and there are no signs of slowing down.
I'm in my 5th semester of school now, just married in September, and now we are 10 wks pregnant!

So, another thing is coming up that may actually benefit the skin. I am heading out for my 2nd tour to Iraq in about 6-8 weeks. I started Slipstream back in late '04, but really did the bulk of the work and finished it while I was in Iraq the first time.
What I am getting at is the possibility is there for me to update it, while at the same time working with Cort so it all fits together.

Just throwing that out there.

Nice to see you guys again!

well ...next time i'll learn to read completely before voting. i'm the one (1) who offered to help. I will, but having 50h will take me . oh .til spring some time to do that much, and slipstream, while nice, doesn't affect gameplay like cortui does, so i'd say drop it (sorry man). can't change my vote, but count it among the masses please.

I just finally uninstalled Slipstream after using it from day 1. Yeah I miss it. But it probably is time.
I do have some of it immortalized on the Academy in screenshots. Like mentioned above, some screens did work in R4.

Newtype, see your PM box.
