I actually prefer comming to flying, but me having a newbie tag doesn't allow me much chances (zero) to comm on the main server. Apart from that, I would also be hesitant to comm even if given the chance to because or the amount of ridicule and criticism I would get from players.

Like in a game I played earlier - Some guy was comming and lost the game when I went into the server, and after that another guy started campaigning for the ban of said commander, along with much e-abuse.

As Bull said, people have brought this upon themselves.

I think (and I've never commed before so my opinion is next to worthless) that it'll depend on your attitude. If you are up front with the vets on your team, then you are likely going to have an easier time of it. If I were coming my first game, I'd pick one or two vets that would be my 'advisors' so to speak.

Also, I expect it doesn't matter if you are an vet comm or a new comm -- if you mess up, people are still going to flick @#(! your way. I would say that part of being a comm is dealing with that aspect of it -- I don't know. Any vet's here care to comment on the truthiness of these bold statments?

The thing in a newbie vs vet game: The vet comm will get a stack. If he does a mistake, his team will usually fix it before anything bad happens and no one will care. The newbie, if he did the same mistake, would see the enemy team make him pay for it and everyone will remember the mistake that caused the loss.

Also, there's a perception linked to reputation. When a comm with a good reputation(and usually with a stack to back him up) tries something new, he'll be seen as creative. A newbie, who tries something new, will be seen as retarded.

I have skilsl and understanding now that will allow me to try something new...if I tried some of the things I do now when I was a newbie I would have got whooped and probably ruined teh game
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

Maybe having a 'new comm' game set up with both comms being new to it would even it out. Perhaps even setting something like that up on the forums, with a passworded server would be better - as this way no complete newbs or complete idiots would get in, or at least it would lower the amount. Everyone in the game would know that it is to have people to learn about comming. This wouldn't have to be on the level of ACS - but it would help eliminate stacking, as people could be assigned a team based on their skill and how well they can comm.

I simply don't have enough blood pressure medicine to command. Between circle flying newbs, voobs who touch my miners and cons, morons who can't nanite, or defend against an eyed bomber, there really is no motivation to command. I actually commanded a game where my eyed bomber blowed three sectors against IC exp with 4 nans for the win. That shouldn't happen. Ever. Except the thing is stupidity like that happens on a regular $#@!ing basis. Any random game I can find at least 5 players either not helping the team, sitting in base or just flat out doing something stupid.

People don't understand there is ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO and the commander shouldn't have to tell you to probe your mother's behind sector. The commander shouldn't have to bitch and moans for nanites on a bomber or htt. Most of all the commander shouldn't have to BEG for defense against a goddamn eyed bomber. Giga $#@!ing scouts can stop IC bomber rushes if you work together and $#@!ing defend.

Why don't I command more? Because people are $#@!ing stupid. At least back in the AZ when the majority of the team was made up of stat whores, they would do things that were helpful, such as defending miners, escorting cons, etc. But now it seems like most people can't be bothered to do anything for their team (or their stats by consequence), they're too busy trying to gun down that (0) int with their scout while the tech base is being killed by an un-nanned eyed bomber run.

Nak-

Is it possible you got spoiled because you got to a point in your commanding that you constantly got great players so that commanding was much simpler. With the large diversity of skill levels you actually have a lot more to do. It seems to me when I get on now a days the number of players on line seems much higher. The diveristy in experince is also higher. As a result, you dont get teams filled with folks that have 4 years experience. You have to tell people to do the basics. Your just past wanting to deal with that.. But wouldn't that be the case by default if you added a bunch of new folks into the game. ?

In my opinion....

If you want to learn how to command

Before you can command you must know how to play the game fully. Do not read any further or try to command if you have not mastered this step. It would be like trying to Coach a baseball team with out ever learning how to play the game. What the $#@! would make you think you could ?

Do not attempt to command :

If you do not read and comprehend the ACS manual- you do not have to be in Allegiance Command school to get access to it. Read it, it really is worth it.

If you do not understand Faction differences and tech weaknesses and counters

During prime time

Do not command against a Veteran Com.

Do not command with out securing a mentor on team speak.

Do not command if your going to sit in base and let your miners die under your nose.

Commanding not about building stuff...., thats the easy part.

The hard part is managing your econmy and grabbing the right terroritory while working towards advanced tech. By coutnering your opponents expansion and adv tech. Motivate the slackers, deal with the flood of pm's and do it all and still not have a heart attack and not be an jerk wade.....

When you can do all that and still be a nice guy your name is AARMSTRONG.....

or you can be an @#$%@# and be ........ the rest of us...
