I would try blender. It's very powerful and somewhat easy to learn, and there's even a pipe joint plug-in.

Try making your screen refresh rate higher, if your moniter will allow it. I don't know how to do this on Windows 7, but on XP it's under Control Panel-> Display-> Settings-> Advanced-> Monitor
