Boot

Important differences:

  • A Boot is when a Commander kicks you off his team.
  • A Lobby boot is when a Game Controller kicks you off the server.
  • A ban is when the admins have blocked your account from joining the online servers. This will normally be because you broke one of either the Terms of Service or the Rules of Conduct.

Effects of a Boot

You are ejected to the server lobby and you cannot rejoin the server until the game ends, or you change your callsign.

Booting Newbies

Commanders are not allowed to boot any player with a rank of (4) or lower, unless:

  • Newbie is constantly moving AI without the commander's consent
  • Newbie deliberately probes red doors
  • Newbie does not donate his pay to the commander (R4 fix)
  • Newbie makes hostile remarks to the commander/admin.

If a Commander does so then they can expect a Ban from an Admin.

When a Commander can Boot

When a Commander can't Boot

A commander can not boot, under several circumstances.

  • Example:
  • Player A proposes a resign, Comm boots him.
  • Player A re-enters the side, does not post a resign, but asks for command.
  • Player A boots ex-Comm.

That is defined as retaliatory booting, and will get you Banned by an Admin for an automatically computed time, based on your ban history.

Dealing with a Boot

If your Commander boots you it is probably for a good reason. This reason may be as valid as "You were about to give away the position of our main or attack", or as draconian as "You weren't doing exactly as I was ordering", or as harsh as "You were doing something stupid". Most Commanders are happy to explain the reason for your boot after the game has ended, although perhaps not politely.

Do not rejoin the game under a different callsign and start swearing at your ex-Commander. Do not make a big deal of it on the forums. Neither of these actions will help your case nor your reputation. If you truly do feel that the boot was malicious and your ex-Commander should be issued a ban you should PM BlackViper, the Enforcement Zone Lead.
