Latest Release: | CC_05b |
The Community Core is a core that, unlike the others, is directly influenced by the wishes of the community and edited by a core group of people (as opposed to a single developer) who can offer a wide range of both core and game expertise as well as thoughts on gameplay balance. The aim of the Community Core is to provide the most balanced, innovative and fun gameplay experience possible by taking aboard the input of the various corners of the Allegiance Community.
You can view and participate in the various on-going discussions here.
History
The Community Core was created by Apochboi on January 26th 2008. The project started as a general inquiry to Tigereye about the current state of Allegiance core development. In the messages it became apparent to Apochboi that there was a real need for a core that is influenced by the community, regularly updated and listens to the real feedback. It was from then that Apochboi went out and started forming a team to manage and run the core on the community's behalf. At first Apochboi approached the squad management of a few squads to see what they thought about building a new Community based core from an existing core and the feedback he received was extremely positive. He then approached a few of the current core developers and asked if they would be interested. A couple of them declined. He then spoke to his own squad leadership about the project and found that aarmstrong himself would be interested in developing a core with him. Aarmstrong would bring a unique perspective on core development to the Community core and was quickly accepted in to the newly forming team. After Aarmstrong the other members fell into place.
So Apochboi had his team together all he needed next was a Zone leader to manage the project. Of course Aarmstrong being a Moderator on the Free Allegiance online forums was the likely choice. Unfortunately it took four months from January 26th for the creation of the Community Core are on the forums and for the finalized team to be setup.
Now the Community Core team is in place and we have a base core selected (Dark Nebulae) we have started working on our releases. The First Official Community Core release was CC_01b.
