Once upon a time battles were fought with sword and sorcery instead of spaceship. Armies would carry banners around so that when soldiers get lost and confused during the midst of battle they can look at the nearest banner and say "Okay, I should be over there." Even the dumbest of peasants could understand this with ease.
From my time previously spent with this game this has not been used as often as it could be.
The main reason why the BBR™ is such a successful strategy is not due to low cost or match-winning firepower. It is a successful strategy because it gets all the rabble in one place. Most problems with clueless pilots can be solved by giving them something to focus on, be it a bomber or a carrier or a gunship or even a fighter ("Rally around me"). They will follow your banner all the way to wherever it might go. When you do reach the enemy yell "CHARRGE ATTACK ATTACK GOGOGO" in chat and your ships will swarm the enemy like a bunch of angry stinging bees. And who doesn't like being swarmed by a bunch of angry stinging bees?
