Why it is harder for a women in the USA to become the president ?
we have more women than men, should it be easy for them to vote women in the office ?
am I missing something here ?

First off, you have fewer women politicians than men, and that has been changing over time, but only recently, so you have fewer women with the experience and standing who can step up. Secondly, you have subtle sexist attitudes still prevalent in our culture. Few people are going to say a woman can't do the job, though some will, and more will think it. But in more subtle ways that people may not even realize about themselves, they will prefer a man. People still think you need to be tough, and aggressive to a point, not that women can't be, but people will start to look critically at a female and question her toughness, where they won't be looking for a flaw in a male candidate unless it is more apparent. I think women will be under more scrutiny than any man, and that makes it harder.

Lastly, a woman candidate has to want it badly enough to wade through all the male centric political circles and endure all sorts of @#(!, and frankly, few people need that @#(! badly enough. It's easier for a man.

I also think social studies have shown that women over 50, and all men, are still more likely to vote for a man.

The experience argument is literally last century but the chances for woman are hampered by the number per your comment. I agree it still holds weight for now but remember number three in line to be POTUS is a woman. Heck the first three POTUS spots are what others traditionally view as disadvantaged in politics.

Also to be considered

There is a significant part of the population that will vote for someone because she is a woman. There is a subtle bias to anyone criticizing a female as well allowing her more chances to errm screw the pooch but not @#(!ting the bed.

You forgot fat and/or ugly will hurt a woman's chances significantly more but attractive helps by an order of magnitude Ala Caribou Barbie. An overly forceful and/or wooden personality (think Johnson and Gore respectively) is a major hurdle too.

The top female running, Hilary, gets free votes from party loyalists, being in charge of the party machine, being a leading woman, and wouldn't it be cool only get her so far for example.

She loses some votes for her looks but her age tempers it quite a lot this time. Her wooden delivery and coldness still lose her many votes and tends to play up she is a woman negatively for many.

In all she is polarizing to many but I believe she benefits for being a woman mire than it hurts her this time. More experience and age tempering her being plain looking and "bitchy" (I understand the underlying sexist, but that is how many wI'll describe her behind closed doors)

That is why pundits believe it is her nomination to lose. It is entertaining to me to watch her and her staff throwing it all away.

Edit:II think all of the reasons above (other than experience) are lousy reasons to vote for anyone.

I'm already on record that her body of work is the reason she is a horrible choice for POTUS
