Even when it existed it sucked.
Now it doesn't even exist.
The fact that not all ACS material is public is part of the reason why there are so few good willing commanders.
I propose that we need more commanders to keep allegiance alive.
To do so I propose we make an all inclusive, completely public, command manual
this stuff is OK, but not nearly thourough or organized enough:
http://www.freeallegiance.org/FAW/index.ph..._Command_School
FFS, it doesn't even say to press f5, and it has the (admittedly sarcastic, but noobs probably take it seriously) comment "Buy Shipyard asap"
I suggest a complete rewrite, in a more organized fashion. WE can take some material form the above link, but it needs to read better, and have easier links to get to.
I suggest a manual be written, and divided into 4 parts:
1) Commanding mechanics. Simple stuff about building cons and miners and planting cons. (i.e how to pres f5, right click to build and move, etc...)
2) Techs- what bases are needed for what, how to get adv tech, what the different techs advantages and disadvantages are. (the wiki doesn't even mention that Tac is for killing mienrs)
3) Strategy- where to place opening cons and why, how to defned and attack miners, when and how to bomb/galv/htt etc... (economy should be thoroughly expalined here) THIS SECTION SHOULD BE THICK
4) That Charisma thing, you know- how to make your team act as a team
COMMAND SCHOOL
You're hired.
The ACS pdf is publically available (although not widely advertised) here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/2975104/ACS%20 ... -12-29.pdf
It's only updated to reflect whatever community core we were using in 2009 and it doesn't include OH.

After trying to teach some noobs and voobs, and seeing them make the same mistake again and again and again, as i am telling them to buy ints instead of a second exp,, then seeing a third exp pop out and they still don't have ints, I dont' think 80% of this community can learn anything.
They are on the same level as harold.
THat being said the 20% deserve a chance, so i will start writing this at some time.

But you are correct, if the program is to effectively be taken public, there are many additions and tweaks to that material that are necessary.
pshhh, if a "graduate" needs to reference this, they should not have "graduated"

Maybe we should make backseating official.
If the "stressful" part of the commanding was relieved by a subcommander who mostly stayed in base watching miners, watching for threats, probe coverage, doublechecking constructor safety, warning stray players to get to where they need to be, I think a lot of people would be willing to give it a shot. The newbie comm could concentrate on research, expansion and offense.
I think we pile a lot on one person and the natural reaction is "$#@! that!"

Want bigger games? Log on to play at the official game time: 9pmET/8pmCT/7pmMT/6pmPT every day of the week. Also Saturdays 8pm UTC.
Meh some of the stuff is useful like miner AI.
(P.S. when was the last time I commanded against you that you didn't bail on your team halfway through and defect?

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

I was hoping to be in before Metz's "it's all cashto's fault", but apparently I am not fast enough.
We did try to run an ACS class this year, with five students. Not one week did any of the students do the required three games and one forum discussion topic. Some were better than others, and I appreciate that LA_Cajun and Sgt_Major stuck with it for as long as they did, but in the end it didn't pan out.
The interest is, as I said from the start, simply not there. Certain people want to bitch from the sidelines, they can go sod off. I'm tired of hearing it.
Ryu, the information you ask for is all right there in the wiki. Frankly, it's not rocket science. Anyone with two warm neurons to rub together could read it and, with a small amount of practice, learn to command a reasonable PUG.
Will they be the next reincarnation of aarmstrong? Hell no. I don't think there is anything anyone could write that could teach someone to be a "great" commander. It takes a lot more than wiki articles to get there. It takes a certain amount of preparation, dedication, experimentation and experience to learn to be that good.
The people who WANT to become commanders, and have the talent, have already done it. They didn't need any handholding in the first place. Pretty much everything that is left is people who DON'T want to command (and they have their reasons), or people that are unteachable from the very start.
