No idea what the picture refers to. After googling "1930 2012 USA snack" I found this page on top.

Those are Twinkies. The company refused to come down on the price and competitors took their business from them.Now Little Debbie snack cakes are up in price. They used to be the cheap alternative.

Sadly it turns out their long shelf life is a myth. They actually don't keep all that well.
