It suggests to avoid logging in rather than encouraging it.

Or maybe it can show the people that have logged in during the last 6 hours. So it will give you some information of who is around, but you will need to actually log in to see if they are still there.

It was good when there were a large numbers of players. It was "Oh hey, X is on. I like X. I'm going to play!" Now it's just "Oh, nobody is on. I'll go elsewhere" for a larger number of people.
