Android Carrier IQ secretly record data
It has nothing to do with android, just a tool (that behaves like a trojan) for e.g. AT&T, Sprint, Verizon to make money over your back.
The sad part, it's hard to remove for the average user, involves some flashing / rooting etc.
Android app to detect CIQ:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.p...p;postcount=110
/instant update: also found on BlackBerry.
/instant update 2: seems to be a stock app on HTC and some Samsung phones too. Nokia BeNeLux strongly denies it's on their phones.
/instant update 3: TrevE tool to check for CIQ. APK file -> http://tweakimg.net/files/upload/TrevE_Log..._TestApp_v7.apk (source tweakers.net)
/update 4:
On some phones it looks like this (view all tabs).
CIQ permissions, it can "see" a lot.

Given that android (except 3) is open source can you not just make your own install which doesn't have it?

Of course, I recommend anyone who's capable to root their phone and install their own ROM, especially since there are usually many many benefits like speed, battery saving, usability etc. With my ROM I was able to of course set the CPU frequency to ondemand in some set amount of increments, and I was even able to undervolt each frequency while keeping the system stable.madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Nov 30 2011, 12:56 PM) Given that android (except 3) is open source can you not just make your own install which doesn't have it?

Android is awesome, but The Man still tries to keep its evil grasp on you
