Not sure what the US owes the majority of the EU, but thats cool. I forgot the US stayed neutral in WWI and 2, and france won the cold war.

France won WW1.

France was also partly a free country towards the end of WW2 lead by De Gaulle, they aided in the defeat of Germany.
