So I think I'm alive and moving around here again; feel like expressing some artistic non-talent for a second (third? cannot remember anymore, lol) go around with a GUI.

After reflecting on some input from the old Slipstream GUI, I wanted to move ahead with something that is still focused on aesthetics yet will be easy on the eyes. With Hyperspace, I will do my best to stay away from edge glows, over-beveling, and other things that were disliked. You will notice that I will once again favor the blue palette; however I want to keep some aspects vanilla such as the button colors and other minutiae.

I've only fully skinned the Zone Public Screen and did a draft Title Screen background at this time; it has been a long time since Slipstream and I'm not sure of how many people would be interested in trying it on. On a side note, apparently Cort is AWOL so I'm not sure right now how this will work into CortUI - but I promise to work on integration after Hyperspace is completed (if completed due to demand).

So without further ado, here are the first screenshots:

Title Screen (finished)

Zone Public Screen (finished)

Team Screen (finished)

If you don't mind, post your opinions.

Again, good to be back among the living!

I like the backgrounds and UI elements, but I think Orbitron font would look better:

Sweet. Also, cort's not really AWOL - juston these forums. I'll prod him in this direction.

Nice, what does it look like without that watercolour blotchy blurry effect on the hyperspace-blue-wooshey-pasty-things? (I'm thinking sharper like in the thumbnails).

I'd suggest keeping highres versions of things like background images should allegiance menus ever run in something that isn't 800*600.

Mad: Hey man! Did you ever unlock that damn hangar door animation? That was my one achilles heel during the Slipstream days.
As far as the 'pasty blotchy stuff', the goal is to have it fade into the background, yet remain somewhat appealing. I'm using free images that consist of artist conceptions of what hyperspace would look like. In more used screens like the Game Lobby, you will barely see the background. Give it some time as I will skin more screens in the coming days. Just not today, because it is my birthday. Drinking and photoshop-ing leads to pandemonium. Oh, and there's a Stanley Cup Game Seven on tonight as well.... :psyched:

BW: We've been talking, BW. Think of this as my warm up to possibly something even greater that Sp4wn and I make collaborate on. All in the works.

Glad to hear it, NT. I would join the effort but I'm swamped right now. I might hop on the train later if you guys can get it rolling.

I'm turning into a fairly proficient mdl codemonkey.

Well, I remember making one that worked in game using mdlc - I just copied the source image, modified it, used mdlc to convert it to a bmp.mdl.

I'm sure I told you that at the time, but you kept saying something about needing to compress the frames into an animation so I left it at that. Actually, in my searching for the thread I said that in I found I said *this* in a thread lol :)
