OK guys, interceptors are fun and useful, and nerfing interceptors is widely considered a bad idea.

Now how about moving the interceptor research to garrison tech, alongside bombers ?

Specifically:
Interceptors research = garrison + techbase
IC/OH + exp = free interceptors
Heavy interceptors research = interceptors + adv. exp
Heavy interceptors research = interceptors + starbase + adv. techbase
IC/OH + adv. exp = free heavy interceptors

The EXP tech path will still be viable (mini2-mini3, PP, adv. miners/cons, HTT, GAs), but it will be seriously nerfed this way.
We'll also see more boost3 hull2 heavy interceptors :)

Will the core engine allow this sort of tech requirements (adv exp OR starbase and adv tech) ?

Actually, this doesn't nerf exp in the slightest. It is a perk to early-game tac as you can buy ints and SFs, holding off on some of the more specialized tac tech (Util2/Hunter1/Sig1 is usually good enough for early game miner O) and not have to worry about being crushed by a bombrun if you don't have an S-rock that's in a good position. Its a perk to late-game sup as you can buy Heavy Ints (you'll already have starbase for TP1) and hold off forcecaps/intbombing from an exp team.

Of course, you would only have access to mini1, so mini3 ints would still crush your team in a straight-up dogfight.

Early game bombing will still be effective, but it will be the old "probes and a camp stop bombers", not "they are tac, lets just go eyed with a few nans"

Exp would be played the same way it is now.

I seriously hope this is a joke.

You would basically be rebalancing the entire game, which you obviously have no idea how to approach.

Just stop posting "ideas", please.

Does this change anything, having Interceptor research in Garrison?! Does this make sense, having every game Interceptors?! :o

If you bomb the enemy team, before they have Interceptors researched, they just have a techbase without any shiptech to research (you never get enhanced tech, if you aren't sup or tac).

If you want to buy a 2nd techbase (you need a Garrison for it, except GT, which needs Palisade), it doesn't change anything, too.

Again, moving Interceptor research to Garrison makes no sense.

Another unintended (or just not thought out) consequence:

Everyone would go Rix every game. Why the hell would you be any other faction if you can have Rix ints to open with?

Rix Tac with garr ints would be the faction/techpath of choice.

Following Zruty's suggestion, you hadn't Interceptors on opening, but after researching them after techbase went (2 min + plant time + 12 secs) up...
