Virtual Joystick mode disables Joystick X/Y/Roll Axis?

So I have been trying combine using a mouse to steer (Virtual Joystick on) and a joystick to throttle (Z axis), side thrust (X/Y axis) and roll (U axis). After many hours of trying to figure out what is wrong with my joystick I searched the Wiki, which yielded no help, and then the forum Helpline where I finally see this post that seems to imply that when Virtual Joystick mode is on, the joystick is disabled. Sure enough... when Virtual Joystick is off the joystick works fine.

Um... I apologize if I am missing something, but given how complex flying is in this game, wouldn't you want to be able to use multiple control devices at the same time? I am hoping I just have something installed incorrectly or set wrong.

:o

Thanks for your help.

I'm a stick user, so take my mouse advice with a train of salt:
Many mouse users use mpAL, which allows you to use the scroll wheel as a throttle or zoom depending on conditions.
It does not allow delicate control like an physical throttle but frankly you don't really need fine throttle control in Alleg.

Re: multiple controllers
Just because Alleg recognizes one joystick does not mean you can't use multiple controllers...
AHK or Joy2Key can allow you to use several controllers as long as you can map the controls to keys. This does however mean no continuous adjustments (like stick axes).
BTW, I'm planning to buy a cheap dance mat, put it under my feet and use it to thrust back/fwd and boost... more details soon I hope.

FYI, Imago (one of our devs) was playing around with the joystick stuff. I know that there was some tweaking done for R6. Maybe you want to head over to the Development Forum and poke around there to see what might be transpiring?

this puts an interesting spin on the idea i had for multiple joystick support.... kind of makes me want to give up on doing it.

Does that mean it is not going to happen? Being able to use virtual joystick and a real joystick at the same time I mean?

Hmmm, this might be interesting if it retains the PS3 controller ability to tilt (accelerometer?).

I don't understand this AHK nonsense..you want Joy2Key. As many joy sticks as you want, axis are enabled (you can use them to set to "up", "down", "left" and "right" as if you were flying with a keyboard if you want, or map a stick to your mouse and then use virtual joystick...

Edit: Joy2Key was mentioned, but you can have continuous adjustments by making two sets of axis your "mouse" and having virtual joystick on.

The main difference, at least for me, is that true axis recognition allows for finer control instead of the on/off only control you get with the joystick-to-key work around. The game does recognize that kind of fine control already, but it gets turned off when Virtual Joystick emulation for the mouse is turned on. Very much a bummer.
