Easy to reproduce this "bug"
1) Get in a bomber or anything with a turret.
2) Point your turret the same direction your host ship is traveling. Lets say, you are about to enter an aleph, you know the enemy is straight ahead, so you turn your turret to face forward.
3) Host ship enter's aleph
4) My turret is not pointing forward anymore. It's pointing someplace to the side or whatever.
5) Bomber gets fragged. :-( Vet yells at noob turret gunner for not hitting that fighter that was camped dead ahead. Noob gets sad.

While I believe you have a valid point, the reason the noob is a noob is not because of his aim, but because of his situational awareness and reaction time. Back when I actually tried to turret I experienced this annoyance as well.
That said, I think it's worth looking at. Low priority, though.

Never really thought of this, but it does make sense to change it if it can be done.
That said, what you need to do is target the nearest enemy as soon as you go through the aleph, then follow the red target pointer to find them. The default pointers are kind of hard to see though;
this mod helps a lot with that.

It has always been like this.
And that "vet" shouldn't be yelling at you, he should be quitting for having driven his bomber into a camp.

it could be interesting to see how exactly the turret direction is determined. for example it might be when you point a turret north on the map, then enter an aleph its exit is facing south, then you would be pointed backwards in relation to your bomber direction. i'll go grab someone from main and test it

nah, just tried it but that wasnt the case. I dont really have time atm to test it more, oh well

I believe this stems from the randomizing of the direction when you go through an aleph. This applies to players regardless of where they are, so this might be a good area to begin looking in.

It's not turret location relative to the sector, but relative to the ship the turret is on.

To revive an old thread:
I think it may be turret orientation relative to the sector as opposed to the ship. If the turret's pointed North from the sector, it might end up pointing North in the new sector... Which is going to be a completely different direction than the ship was traveling.
