I was trolling the wayback machine today and decided to check out the Black Shadow archives. I found a couple of gems, including rosters from 2003 and 2004, and one post by Eric1020 that may bring back some fond memories.

We know of at least 162 players who have graced our roster. Without further ado, here is a combo roster of the 106 players listed in BS archives in 2003 and 2004 with their join dates.

And here is the post by Eric ....

Congrats on being the best squad in allegiance

Let's continue the tradition through release. We may not have been #1 on the leaderboard, but IMHO we were #1. I'm going to tell you why, and let you in on a few things I see that you guys don't (don't get a big head about it though).

#1: Even though we were #2 on the leaderboard, we beat the belters just as many times as they beat us, plus we played tougher competition in non-belters games than they did.

#2: Part of the reason we couldn't play many teams but the belters was for the mere fact that most teams REFUSED to play us. Squads like The Collective, Steel Fury, Dark Stalkers, and Armada of Victory all turned down invitations to play us at one point or another, mostly citing that "They weren't ready to play such an elite, coordinated group". They didn't say exactly that, but that's what it boiled down to.

#3: of all the Alvault Sunday night games (which didn't count on squad stats), we for the most part dominated. We got beat bad one game (I'm not going to use the double-team excuse, we got beat no matter what the situation was).

#4: Squad participation. No other group came close to BS in terms of desire to play. OF, |DS|, and the Belters were all fully capable of bringing numbers close to what we have, but we were the only squad I saw that continually had high turnout to every event. It was very tough to see some people left on the sidelines at times considering we were all worthy of competing in every single game. It is a true tribute to us that so many of us turned out for squad events, and it wasn't just because we outnumbered others. There are actually squads with larger rosters than ours now...

#5: attitude. In terms of sportsmanship, honor, and loyalty we also dominated. There were very few occasions where someone in BS behaved in a way that was unlike us. For the most part we handled a lot of controversy and never lost our heads. I think we are also the only squad not to lose a member to another group. I'd like to think that's because everyone here has common goals and desires.

I could probably number to 100, but those are the big ones. A lot of times our squads success reflect directly on me, but it shouldn't. It's you all that make us what we are. I didn't design this page, one of our most dedicated members and leaders, Debinani did. I don't have 20 logons and computers, nor the talent, to take on squads on my own. That was all you guys. This squad really recruited itself after our initial offering, and that was because of its members. I hope that all of you will stay with us in some capacity, regardless of if you buy allegiance or not. I also hope you all feel like you have a group of friends here, this is a community, and I hope that even though the beta is over the message boards stay alive, people play other games together, and make new friends.

I know this post is already a novel, but this group of people is great. And not enough could be said about you. If you're online look me up on zone friends. I have a lot of games (although a lot of them I'm not that skilled at) and am almost always looking for some multiplayer fun. I guess I'll end this hellacious post on that, keep having fun, and I'll see you online.

Definitely brings back fond memories.

A different time. 1000+ players online at any one time.

I'm sad that many of you guys will probably never get to experience an active community that large for this game. For an Allegiance fanatic it was absolute heaven.

Not like the guys your playing with? Go join one of the 2 or 3 dozen other games.

Skill level too high or too low for you? Novice or Adv only games were all over the place.

It was a great, great time. The heyday of Allegiance ended way too soon.

You know the second I read that I hit quote and flew down to the bottom of the page, but both of you bastards beat me to it.
