Would it be reasonable to ask for icons showing tech (and level) that the team already has? Immediate usage would be that salvaging after an encounter would be easier a great deal if i saw where that damn mini 2 or boost 3 floated to, without having to click through bunch of useless junk.

Easily doable - all that would have to be done is make a few new icons and then set them in the core. I could swear there was a topic on this started last week...maybe that was just a discussion in NOAT.

Personally I'd just like to set aleph res with a separate icon since its the only PU item besides cashboxes that are worth money.

My concern with changing everything else is screen clutter. There are already complaints about the fuel & ammo icons (although those people are welcome to download/make a different version). The new floating weapon/booster/etc. icons would have to be something small and simple. The other issue would be more people flying circles after a battle trying to get new guns for their ship when they should be doing something useful instead.

What we could do (and would be the best course of action IMO) is change the icon names for the different items but make the "new" icons a copy of the current icon (the +). This way the icons could be modded if desired, but would otherwise be the same for anyone not running a mod. In short, the clutter would be optional.

Good point, but we already have small cross icons for them, this could add little more. Is it technically possible to add these icons so that it could be modded individually from the core?

edit: ok xeretov just answered this while i was typing. awesome, if i had the possibility that would be enough.

I'll put this down as something to look at for CC_07.

I'm thinking of just making three new moddable icons: One for aleph res, one for guns (mini/gat/sniper/etc.) and one for boosters. Making separate ones for each class of weapon seems a bit over the top IMO - it should be obvious which kinds of guns are going to be floating around after a fight. I'm personally open to input on it though.

We'll also need some new icons to be offered as mods, if any of you aspiring artists want to take a crack at making them.

Simple mini B's and G's will suffice. And I agree it's not necesary to make one for each particular part; it's part of situational awareness to know what the enemy has. Keep the regular ole' T for new tech though.

This will be in CC_07.

The icons are not modified by default, but use different icon names, meaning you can modify them separately if you wish. I'll post a guide up after CC_07 is released with the different file names & which items they're used by.

Gat & Mini have their own shared icon, and Boosters have their own icon. I've only set the mark 2 & 3 versions to use the modified file though, since I can't see many instances when you'd want to hunt down a gat 1. If you want this changed, or want to suggest another item of tech to be moddable now is the time to ask.

Alright, quick little guide here for those of you who want to mod the new icons. I might make something for them myself later but don't wait on that. If you don't know how to mod icons then try looking in the artwork dev forum, this is just a guide for which filenames are used for the icons, and what parts are affected by them.

Edit: juckto has been kind enough to make a set of icons. Check them out here (link). You can also find a different set from Parcival here (link).

Weapon Icon

File name: cc_piwepbmp.mdl
Affects: PE & PW Gat 2/3 and PE & PW Mini 2/3, EW Gauss Gun
Comments: Does not affect util/sniper/etc. Gauss was added to the list in CC_08.

Booster Icon

File name: cc_piboostbmp.mdl
Affects: Booster 2, Booster 3, Heavy Booster
Comments: No it doesn't affect light booster

Aleph Res Icon

File name: cc_piaresbmp.mdl
Affects: Aleph Res 1/2/3, SRM Nerve Gas, MRM Nerve Gas, SRM Doomsday
Comments: I put this on any missile that cost money (except XRM) since they're all worth at least $1000

New in CC_08:

Shield Icon

File name: cc_pishieldbmp.mdl
Affects: Small Shield 2, Small Shield 3
Comments: Was not added to Medium shields though this is possible.

Missile Icon

File name: cc_pimissbmp.mdl
Affects: MRM Seeker 1/2/3, SRM Dumbfire 1/2/3, LRM Hunter 1/2/3, LRM Killer 1/2, MRM Zeus
Comments: Added to all ranks of small missiles (excluding QF) as its a consumable. Was not added to QL versions of missiles or SRP Killer. Be warned this may generate a lot of screen clutter.

Also note that the weapon icon now affects Gauss Gun as well.
