I got the idea when I saw somebody who's name was miner something, it got me thinking, I'm a lot smarter then the miner ai, so why can't I produce huge income for my team? Now I'm not a programmer or anything, so I don't know how hard it would be to do this. But one idea that I did have was a Miner specific gun that would give you money, for shooting the He3 asteroids, as well as reducing the amount of He3 in the asteroid, but then I thought about how you would factor in cargo, and I figured ammo would be the key, so lets just say if you miss the asteroid, you don't deserve those few credits >_>.

Well, thank you for reading :D .

So is that a yes or a no? Because I currently suck at dogfighting, it would be nice to know I'm actually helping my team.

>_< I think that smiley-under-a-chair meant something along the lines of "lots of more experienced players are about to come and yell at you for this suggestion, and I am hiding." :P

Anyhow, I actually remember a suggestion like this being made before at some point - what if you're down to one miner, say, and really can't afford to lose it? If you could have a human being controlling it directly, mightn't that be worth it? But at the end of the day, first, AI miners are a pretty fundamental part of how the game works, second, miners can be ordered around by the commander (well technically any player but only the comm/miner D should try to) as it is, meaning that human players could be sent to do something more productive/less boring as long as miner management is responsive and competent, and third, the code changes required would likely be formidable. >_< I'm no programmer, but I imagine you'd have problems all the way along, starting with the simple fact that the maximum number of miners is limited by game settings and only one can be built at a time, and building them takes time, but there is no way to put such restrictions on pilot-able vessels, which can be bought instantly once available, and on which there are no quantity limits. Not even to mention guns that give you money, which... I'm fairly sure are likely quite impossible. Basically, it would be a fundamental change that would affect pretty much everything about how Allegiance is balanced, or would require a ginormous amount of code changes, or most likely both, all so that instead of ordering miners around in the F3 view, players could actually sit in one, meaning they'd sit in one place staring at a rock for 30 seconds holding down the "fire" button.

Other players are likely to come tell you not to make suggestions like this until you've been playing the game for a long while. I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I told you that, I think... but, uh, I'm telling you anyway: Don't try to make suggestions about the game until you've been playing for a while and have more of a feel for how everything works. "A while" meaning a number of months at least. >_>

Having said that, Welcome to Allegiance, I hope you have lots of fun with the game, and don't worry about being bad at dogfighting, many experienced players are. Practice (and reading the Cadet materials on the Wiki) are the only ways to get better, really. ^_^

If you want to help your team, dogfighting is far from the best way to do that anyway. The best way to help your team is to fly a scout, put lots of probes around key alephs, and always have a nan handy in case a friendly miner, constructor, or bomber needs to be healed.

No. This has been suggested several dozen times, and each time there have been plenty of reasons not to and only a handful of reaons to.

The primary reason is the amount of programming that would be required to have a player be able to mine, not to mention the other things that GirlyBoy mentioned - miner limits, build time, etc.

And Mustyosi, stop suggesting things and go away until you have a better concept of the game than "ZOMG!" - And ask people in private about suggestions before you post about them. Odds are, a single person will be able to tell you what has been done, what has been suggested, and why things were or were not implemented. Oh, and take Cadet and Cadet II, so that you may get a clue at a sooner date than otherwise.

Also

"your not smarter then my AI miners. In fact, I'd MUCH rather have them. They at least listen to my commands SOME of the time. You? NONE of the time."
