Disclaimer: This is not a real mandate. Any of you savvy enough would just go into the game controls tab, check squad game, and switch to Allow 1.

It may be time to try out a mandated AB again for non squad games. For all the bitching, you can still easily get on to a team of your choosing with AB. You can still *stack* all you want, but eventually your rank will regulate.

Might make PUG's suck less.

Whatever.

If I remember right from the last go around on this topic the ab is not the improved version Baker worked on back at the beginning  but I believe that's what TE mentioned.

The issue, once again is not the ranks for most people, rather it's the stacking people do. Until you get the improved ab version in place and make people use it *shrug* it's still up to the commanders to keep the game even. Allegskill is a tool to improve game play and unless it's utilized to it's full potential your not get the most mileage out of it's use.

Would be nice to have something like a queue to join the game that already started and AB to sort queued players into teams.

It seems to me most games end up pretty balanced anyway.

The current version of AB isn't too bad at making decent teams to start with....especially if there is a large number of players. Maintaining even teams once the game has started is a different matter though.

More balanced than HELO? I don't know, a lot of players who are surprisingly good are not ranked as highly as they should be in terms of usefulness. For example Nuke and Kap are ranked Top 30 (20 and 26) when you have players like Drizzo, guitarism (I personally value his skillz) and H_Mallow ranked lower.

In other words I do not trust AS to make good balancing choices. For one thing the ranks only go up to 22 right now. Say what you will about the order being more accurate but with such a small range, the difference between one 14 and another 14, or a 14 and a 15 isn't as significant as it should be. For example, saxotron is a 13...but so are Gooey and Void.

And of course we could mention the 88 players ahead of me but I think my Patty Ridin' ability speaks for itself. I don't know, AS is just a bit of a non-issue for me.

Again, despite bakers efforts to make people shut up, rank still doesn't mean anything.

Take people like Pico, Whorez, Freeb, etc, and compare them to others like crazedbomber, brood, kap, and you find that rank is pretty unbalanced ;)

And crono, don't worry about your Patty Ridin' abilities, HELO at least kept you in check :P

I would have been willing to do random teams (with reasonably even comms) EVERY game even before all this rank stuff. Ranks give us a headstart on the randomizing, nothing more.

Maybe statistics are a better judge of "skill" than you?

The small range of ranks is something of a misnomer as the displayed ranks aren't used by AS in it's calculations - It uses Mu and Sigma, which have far finer variation. The displayed rank is also derived from Mu and Sigma but is not used in any calculations except for the current (old) autobalance. When AS AB is implemented displayed rank will be removed from that equation too.
