It seems there was a failure within my datacenter which knocked a few hundred servers off the internet, including stripe and nool (the forum server). Our little community wasn't the only group affected - hundreds of others experienced a short outage as well.

They got things back up rather quickly, but our lobby didn't recover as gracefully - it stayed "dead" once the datacenter failure was resolved until someone restarted the lobby.

BlackViper tried to do this almost immediately after everything came back but he wasn't able to - I had forgotten to give him access to do this remotely!

He now has access to do this, and I will make a point to give every ZL this same access.

Sorry that this all happened in the middle of Sunday primetime :(

Bah, it's all good. I think we can live without Allegiance for a few hours.

It was just for 30 minutes down, and ppl though it was end of the world... ;)

Heh, it's not like we really need to have allegiance 25 hours a day, 8 days a week. The way you guys act, it seems like it's an addiction.

Oh, wait...

This makes me wonder...
The number of sever crashes seem to have risen dramatically in the past 2-3 months. When I first started playing, the server almost NEVER crashed (around August-December).
Is this year's April Fool's joke causing the server to crash more frequently/dramatically? Seems a large coincidence that these squad game disrupting crashes are happening right around April 1st... :ninja:

Also Known As:

TA08-297A (other)
CVE-2008-4250 (other)
VU827267 (other)
Conficker B++ (other)
Summary

Win32/Conficker.C is a worm that infects other computers across a network by exploiting a vulnerability in the Windows Server service (SVCHOST.EXE). If the vulnerability is successfully exploited, it could allow remote code execution when file sharing is enabled. It may also spread via removable drives and weak administrator passwords. It disables several important system services and security products.

Microsoft strongly recommends that users apply the update referred to in Security Bulletin MS08-067 immediately.

Win32/Conficker.worm.88064 (AhnLab)
Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen (BitDefender)
Win32/Conficker.C (CA)
Win32/Conficker.X (ESET)
Trojan.Win32.Pakes.ngs (Kaspersky)
W32/Conficker.worm.gen.c (McAfee)
W32/Conficker.D.worm (Panda)
W32/Confick-G (Sophos)
W32.Downadup.C (Symantec)
Summary

Win32/Conficker.D is a variant of Win32/Conficker. Conficker.D infects the local computer, terminates services, blocks access to numerous security related Web sites and downloads arbitrary code. Conficker.D can relay command instructions to other Conficker.D infected computers via built-in peer-to-peer (P2P) communication. This variant does not spread to removable drives or shared folders across a network (as with previous variants). Conficker.D is installed by previous variants of Win32/Conficker.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
RaumVogel: If Conficker has been stopped because everyone patched and is using updated anti-virus software, how come Micro$oft is predicting Conficker.D will still hit on April 1st? Are there that many servers on the internet that it can still propagate? And how many are affecting our servers? (you know..feeders that are between us and the backbone)

M$ continued:

If the vulnerability is successfully exploited, it could allow remote code execution when file sharing is enabled. It may also spread via removable drives and weak administrator passwords.

Microsoft strongly recommends that users apply the update referred to in Security Bulletin MS08-067 immediately.

After last year's, I'd expect too see a very minor April Fool's this year

I heard a rumor that the programming gods were going to inject "Tiny Elvis" into the game so on April 1st he would appear in the cockpit and say things like:

Hey,man, check out that asteroid...man that thing is huge!
and
Hey,man, check out that frigate...man that thing is huge!
and
Hey,man, check out RaumVogel...man that thing is huge!
