Bombers

Does someone know of a link to a page that has a guide on the effective piloting of bombers (most notably stealth bombers)? I played a game yesterday where i managed to waste 2 bombers before even getting into missile range (yet strangely received no reprisal...
). Anyway, beings as that was probably a bad thing i was wondering if there was a guide somewhere?
It's covered in detail in Cadet II. But basically, stealth bombing is a team effort. Several bombers set up at a safe (and usually equal) distance. They co-ordinate so as to hit the base at the same time to increase the chances of success. That's the gist of it. (As always in Allegiance, there are exceptions, but that's the basic approach.)
It's pretty much like FreeBeer said, but if you see me in game some time, I will gladly guide you through it step by step.
EDIT: Actually, if you are on right now, just pm me and we can go to a private server and try it.

Thanks for the quick response. I figured it would be covered in cadet 2, but right now i'm waiting for cadet I to start. What i was really wondering i guess was if there was a write up of the cadet 2 material like there is for cadet I?
Also: Sambasti: i am gonna put a postit on my monitor about that, as that would be awesome.

Hit the $#@!ing Help button in the $#@!ing game.
Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
The in-game Help button summons juckto to yell at you some more.
Anyway, I don't think Cadet II material is publicly available.
The key to bombing is that all forms of bombing are a team effort. A run with a regular bomber will fail without nans and either turrets or escorting interceptors, just as surely as solo stealth bombing will fail.
For stealth bombing, communication and planning are key. Make sure the path you are taking to the enemy base is clear of enemy probes (and ships) - check it out before you launch, and ask anyone going ahead of you if they are seen by the enemy at any point.
Keep missiles and shields in cargo as you probably already know, and keep the cloak on - especially as you are entering enemy sectors. Keep an eye on the energy level. Set up at 6 to 7 kilometres from the target base, where you should, with any luck, be out of the enemy's scan range, and you can shut the cloak off and let it re-charge in preparation for the main run. Once the run starts, mount missiles at about 2k or so. Three stealth bombers is generally an absolute minimum to have a chance of taking out a tech base, in my experience, and more helps.
Rixian stealth bombers are very different, because they don't use missiles, but anti-station tower drones. This is generally a huge advantage because drones don't raise your signature even when mounted. With good tech and a bit of luck, you can avoid being eyed altogether, even as the enemy base dies. But don't count on it. Make sure you check the range of the level of drones your team has before you launch, and deploy them just within that range of the base to make sure their shots actually hit the base (if they're just barely in range, some shots may miss small stations like some factions' teleport receivers).
Someone correct me if any of this is stupid wrong, but that's what I know. >_>

Bombing is one of the simplest and yet most challenging aspects of this game. For some reason while there is virtually no flying talent required to fly a bbr, many people seem to epic fail.
The first thing you need to do is read Juckto's post on firing missiles when you're "out of range." That will put you ahead of 90% of bbr pilots right there.
The second thing you need to do is find out what VC pack you have (I'm assuming default) and memorize the "ripcording" vc (`yr on default). Do this whenever you're ripcording, then text chat your destination. Also make sure to start your ripcord before yelling it, because that half a second can make all the difference between escaping with a sliver of health and giving you and your turrets a nice, relaxing five minute float home.
The third thing to do is read the chat. If you do not know what the target your commander wants bombed is, do not request a bomber.
The fourth thing to do is unmount missiles and shields. Keep them in your cargo hold, you won't need them until later. If you're launching in a dm sector, you're doing it wrong.
The fifth thing to do is learn to scream with all caps until you gather some nans. Since you're new, look for someone with a @XT or @SysX tag, they tend to be the loudest and most-listened to. Eventually when you get a @CDT-A tag and your own squad tag, you can start screaming as well.
The sixth thing to do is double check that you're launching from the right sector and that you have turrets.
The seventh thing to do is triple check, because holy $#@! how many times have I launched in the wrong sector and $#@!ed up the whole game. Don't make that mistake.
The eighth thing to do is launch your bbr. Notice that at this point you haven't done any flying yet.
Flying a bomber is easy. Yell at your turrets when they shoot while you're uneyed, keep going straight towards the aleph you're heading for, and then head mostly towards your target. But don't fly straight at your target, go a little to the side. Sometimes aim a little above the sation, sometimes to the left... mix it up. Don't be known as the bbr pilot who always aims a little above the station, because then you'll soon after be known as the bbr pilot who eats prox.
Oh, yeah. No autopilot. Ever. You should be getting rammed from behind: it makes you go faster, and autopilot tries to dodge your fighters which makes you go slower. Hold your forward thrust button to keep your momentum longer.
If you're ever alone in a sector and you don't have full ammo, hit ctrl-r so the players in your turrets will want to gun for you again. Keep in mind this will load your missiles so make sure to unload them quickly.
Revisit step one again and again until you are fairly comfortable firing missiles beyond their listed range.
Always always ALWAYS read the chat. When the commander says "CAMP!" you camp, when the commander says "Rip back!" you rip back, when the commander says "RUSH HEADLONG INTO THAT Mini-3 Heavy Int Prox 2 camp!" respond with #resign (I'd say #mutiny but if your commander is sending bombers into mini 3 heavy ints then the game is way too far gone). For the most part, listen to your commanders except when they're telling you to do stupid things that you know will get you killed for no purpose other than the commander had his head up his ass.
And that's pretty much all there is to piloting bombers... except bbr duels but you'll have to talk to Aeris about that.

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

How to SB when noob:
Caveat - this guide is about a simplified, generalised, noobified version of stealth bombing.
Keep your uber-vet tips and tricks for after the newbie does it a few times.
You need X stealth bomber for:
TP = 1-2OP = 2-3Tech base = 3-5Advanced tech base = 5+
Loadout:
Do NOT launch or fly with shield !Do NOT launch or fly with missiles loaded !Put shield in cargo. You'll use it later.Plenty of ABs in cargo (3+). You might get very very lucky.Load Sniper if you have it.
How to get there:
Ask what the comm wants bombed.
Before going, sit in base, look at F3 and plan your route.
When you enter a sector, go high or low ASAP, until you're 3k+ from the grid. Uncloak when you're far enough.
On route, travel on the edge of sectors, far above or below grid with cloak off and cloak before entering alephs alephs.
I can see their base ! Now what ?
Go waaaay off grid ASAP ! Ask a vet SB for a waypoint if you're not sure what is a good spot.
Setup with other SBS at a good distance from the base and each other.
5K away from a small base, 7-8k from a tech base.
Recharge your energy before going.
Ask a vet if you're set up good.
Go on signal.
Cloak 4-5K from target.
Load AB at 2k.
Fire AB at 1400.
Uncloak and load shield when you're eyed.
When it's over, unload shield, cloak and run like crazy.
Good luck.
