As some of you may know, stats from our forum server were recently announced, and we have been ripping through a lot of monthly bandwidth for 1 server. However, that amount is negligible if split accross many servers... And that's what I'd like to do.

If you run a server, or know of someone who does, you are in a great position to help the community you know and love.

I'm calling on anyone able to help spread the load to PM me if you are able to help host the Allegiance setup.exe on your server for download.
Any help is appreciated.

I plan on writing a small snippet of code that will redirect downloads of our setup.exe across all available servers to minimi2 the stress on all servers involved.

If you are able to help, please copy our setup.exe to your server and send me the url to download it. I will be modifying the downloads section on our site to include your url as a mirror to help ease our monthly costs.

Thank you everyone who is able to offer our setup to prospective new players.
I hope to have the new download system up by this year's end.

If you can PM me what sort of load you are looking at I should be able to help, depending on the load, I might even be able to host it on my mini server at home aswell as my paid for main one.

Both are up 24/7.

TE, would it possible to limit usage to specific hours of the day? We have been trying to get additional bandwidth since May but AT&T isn't playing nice (having to being lawyers into play), so we only have available bandwidth during certain hours right now.

Can't we just get an Allegiance torrent up and running?

That is a great idea. It's too bad that bittorrent has such a stigma attached to it.

Which is why we preferred the hosting option. Also, a lot of people don't know how/choose not to use torrents. Getting a steady list of seeds would also be another prob

And then you wonder why one struggles when listing legit uses of torrents :P

Yeah this was the EXACT discussion that occurred in the ZL forum.

Torrents are a GREAT thing to use in this situation. Unfortunately the less-educated masses associate "torrent" with "illegal" despite everyone's best efforts.
We may put a torrent up in the future, but for now we're steering clear of them because of some people's incorrect impressions.

As for download times or download stats... there isn't much I can do in that respect. If you give me a URL to mirror, it'll go into the "round robin" pool along with everyone else's. Each click on the download button will grab the next URL. It'll get too messy if I code in 300 different exceptions for each URL.

If you offer a URL, it will be used until you ask it be taken down. If you're worried you won't be able to spare the bandwidth, then despite your best intentions you can't help us with a mirror so please don't offer a URL :)
