Tried to have a go again at making some models in Gmax. Thought I'd try to make a fig-ish ship for my WIP faction. This is the result. Thoughts?

I dislike it.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

lol that looks very GT like. try to make something original /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> although it looks pretty good. you should lose the autosmooth thingy on the engines, since that doesnt work in alleg. you gotta really smooth it if you want to smooth it in alleg. now.. modelling is the easy part. try to make a skin now /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Looks halfway between a GT int and a Colonial Viper Mk. 4 (http://www.alfredsmind.ca/terran/viperfour2.jpg).

Not bad though... but as Loriana pointed out, the real challenge is texturing the thing. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Updated version. Quite a lot less GT-ish. And a bit more 'brute force'-ish, IMO.

Personally, my biggest issue is the tail fins. It doesn't look right without them, it doesn't look right with one vertical one, and it doesn't look right with the two tilted ones. I was thinking of putting them a bit less tilted at the point where the engine meets the fuselage.

Thoughts?

Try giving all the fins the same "lines"..... so like from the top/bottom views all the edges of the blue pieces are parrallel/are on the same line. You could probably completely remove the middle fins completely, especially if you took off the middle engine. Also give the different pieces better transitions to each other. For example: the horizontal connecting wings extend past the tan body and have that extra little bit hanging on behind it, looking sloppy. Also I might recommend the horizontal connecting wings be made substantially thicker.

Updated. Changed the tail fins - Same lines as other wings, a little bigger. Tidy-ed up the connecting wings.

I like the tail fins much better. Thanks Ramaglor!

I dunno... there's something sorta nostalgic about it. Reminds me of the Last Starfighter dogfighting scenes. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
