I have read quite a few of the threads about this project, and generally trying to keep up with the news and planning to try to give some help once I will have more time.
But. I have done a bit of work for a different project a while ago. The project was called MWLL (mechwarrior living legends), and the main game structure and ideas were VERY similar if not identical to Quantus.
Gameplay was based on commander (at least at the time when I was working with the project) and a team, planet-based game (e.g. terrain/buildings etc.). Including air/ground units, infantry, and mechs (e.g. walking big-ass robots). Economy based on resource collection and ability to build your base wall by wall, factories, research cetres, defenses etc.
Engine used is Crytech.
Again, in no way am I trying to say "this is already made guys". Games are still different, but it would be possible to get some ideas from their project and just look at the way they did it there...
A note.
We should be able to spice things up with the whole alien thing, it's also a helpful means of explaining the unexplainable /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
