Currently the treasures are just mkII tech which saves you money and time on researching it.
Being inspired by a recent GT vs nix game, where I gradually got a hvy bbr with med ass shield and 1 laser and 1 vulcan cannon (as GT) I would suggest to have treasure play 2 roles :
1) As normal, floating tech in space
2) A real treasure, (as described in alleg academy), you can mount it, but you cannot research it or mount it on a stock ship. This means that we can have (say) gat4 floating in the space, which cannot be researched, which can only be mounted and used as long as you have the ship. Same thing goes for missiles etc.
This will give a bit more variaty to the current gameplay, and also allow you to "personalise" you current ship. Even to the extent when you have found a single emp-missile mountable on a fig, and made TT/fig outpost capture.
In bullet points :
1) More powerfull/ different tech as treasures
2) NOT researchable
3) NOT re-usable
Treasures.
This would be a lot of fun in DM games, but not very good for Conquest. Why?
1. People would spend time hunting down gat4 that they should be using to help the team.
2. As soon as you teleport to a different station than where you docked, the tech is lost. In a conquest game, you will likely be doing this ALL THE TIME.

i mentioned the idea of picking up pieces of tech that do nothing, but once you collect them all, unlocks a new research option.
though how well this would work for normal games, you wouldn't want the special tech to be too cheesy, but you would want it to be cool maybe something like pnx laser 2.5 but with a fancy name and graphic. or new ships etc

Uhh.. no, just as Sushi mentioned, its a thing that you pickup, for example if someone found boost2, IC light int might ask a scout to give it to him and then dock with garr, leaving the boost2 mounted, which gives him advantage in early game.
You of course loose it if you switch between stations, thats a balancing issue : those treasures can be cheesy, but they are either :
1) 1 part, so you are left with 1 gat4 and 2 gat1. which is not such a big deal anyway.
2) or a rack of missiles, which are finite. (same goes for chaffs)
of course its not true for shields/cloaks.
And yes, it shouldnt be WAY more advanced than normal, but definitely stronger than mkIII tech.

Thank you parci
You only lose it if you change ships, not stations. You can lose ships by changing stations if your techbase head a splode.theTroy wrote:QUOTE (theTroy @ Apr 24 2008, 04:45 PM) You of course loose it if you switch between stations, thats a balancing issue : those treasures can be cheesy, but they are either :

I like this idea. Could be made another pre-requisite to some of the more exotic tech certain factions use.madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Apr 25 2008, 01:31 AM) i mentioned the idea of picking up pieces of tech that do nothing, but once you collect them all, unlocks a new research option.
