I am not sure if it will require a code change or not, but continuing the idea of solar inverters for the GT :

A Gravitron device, which can change the mass of your ship (making it considerably heavier) for the cost of signature increase and energy consumption.

Can be mounted : on pretty much everything, besides a scout.

Effects : increases signature (even in off-line), drains energy, dramatically increases mass of the ship, massive by itself.

Examples in current games : accelerate with an int, and pick up a massdriver, observe the results /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Possible uses : ramming of course. Also keeping your speed just those seconds longer, while the booster reloads.

Pros :
+good for ramming, you do not deal more damage, but you push considerably further
+Now you can keep your momentum inbetween the booster reloads

Cons :
-Its heavy by itself already, making the acceleration and handling of the ship harder.
-Fast energy drain will require a sufficient skill to time the rams properly (e.g. steep learning curve)
-Raised signature even in off-line mode gives you away.

Just an idea, nothing else ))

would require a code change, but it would be interesting

Cant you just create a new item called 'DEAD WEIGHTS', weighing 99999999999 kilograms, that's enough already. No need for a hard code change, right?

i think boosters can change the mass of a ship and it's sig. they use fuel rather than energy though.

/me observes a transversion from "newbie questions" to "nooby critisism"
btw, LS, hvy cloack and most of the capship stuff can be used as a dead weight.

They do change the weight of the craft once the fuel has been loaded into the booster (e.g. empty 1 slot). But the fuel is very light, which is not right tbh.

hmm, now i'm confused. i was sure they could modify the mass of a ship, but in ICE there isn't a mass modifier. though i thought in an older DN version where battleships could mount hyper burst that it reduced the mass to a negative number while boosting, but for the TF flagship it's mass remained positive. though when things used it they didn't behave as if they had negative mass i don't think...

maybe the mass modification was just related to the acceleration modifier. anyway, nvm.

What if we created an item which has -9000 kilograms of mass in terms of ICE?

Once acceleration goes too high the ship starts spiralling out of control until it dies from the sector limit boundry. If you want to try it load any small craft in EoR with a full cargo of capsule drives.
