1- Am I allowed to make a core, start off with a core like dn then remove and add things I want?

2- I want to make a core with lots of stuff, but I am not all that good with starting a core without a different core. also, can I use other models? like the Effix models in Warpcore and the rocket model off racecore101

3- Oh and Allegiance R4 BETA keeps crashing when I join my own server. why is that so?

4- How do you make ship models?

Ask the maintainers of the core you want to use.

Most cores are based off MS 1.25 IIRC...that might be a help. It's zone_core.igc in /Artwork I think.

You cannot use Dark Nebulae, any version of it. It's common courtesy to ask the core developer for their agreement to let you use the core. If they do not allow you to use it, dont. Do not go ahead and use it anyway.

1- Please allow Noir plenty of time for him to review your PM. Noir is an amazingly busy guy in real life. He is not ignoring you, or your idea, he is not online everyday. Do not assume that no news is permission to go and use a core, as it may take weeks or even longer for a reply. And, that reply may be asking for more time to think about, or get time to think about your idea. So be patient, when asking people.

2- Yes it is possible to intermix models within cores, I am not sure fully how to do it. But, let's just say I made a mess of the core I am working on and found I made all ships available to all faction of the core I am working on... By mistake. They worked yes... But, I did not want every factions ships mixed in and usable by any faction... O,o

3- I am not 100% on what is going on with that yet, being I am new to this... Ask Dogbones who heads up Faz Dev to help you out. He is awesome help.

4- Making models takes an amazing amount time. It is not super hard overall to learn it, it just takes tons of time. A few things to know about Allegiance models... They are .mdl format, and there is a tool to help format a model from and to the .mdl format. This tool is in the downloads section above top right for free. Now, that is only the coverting tool, you next need to buy a nice program called Milkshape in order to use that converting tool. The tool only works with Milkshape. Good news, Milkshape is very low cost compared to most 3D programs, and it is pretty easy to use for the most part.

Now, I happen to like making my models with a open source free program called Wings3D I think it is at sourceforge and is very easy for me to use, I like the layout it offers over Blender (a free 3d program also, and a few others)... The best bet is to get used to Milkshape, and not worry about imprting and exporting issues. I just happen to teach myself 3D on Wings3D, before knowing I needed Milkshape.

Once your done with the model, your not done for with it yet. The next step is called CVH, this is the part that tells the game engine Allegiance uses where you want the pilot view, weapons mounts, hit boxes, and in general lets the game see your model, and use it in game. I have made models up to the point I need to work out the CVH part of it. CVH is not very hard really from what I can tell, I just have never gone to that next step for many reasons to do with real life.

Overall, expect a core to take months, or more to make, and more time to beta test it. And, time to Alpha test the core before it can go fully live. You may be looking at nearly a year for an original core to go live, or be ready for fulltime play. This does not include the time you will also need for making the models you want to use, and getting them game ready.

Expect about one month of time to make one model at first, as you get better it gets easier to crank them out. But, plan on it taking a month or less to learn the very basics of model making, then another few weeks to grasp skinning, and then a few weeks to get used to working with both of these new skills. Before you are ready to start work on your first model.

This is one reason why we respect the work of others, and why we always want to ask if we can use it... It is not that people don't like being asked, or that they don't like you or your idea. It is they have spent countless hours, and or money to have things done the way they like. And, note working around asking the creator like using an allowed spinoff of the core you wanted to use, is equal to using the original core. You would still need to ask first.
(Not saying you would do that, just for anyone else thinking they could try that... And, letting them know not to.)

@Kite

For the ships you want only available to certain factions, place that Factions "Pre" number in the Pre of that ship.
